Does Ferguson play other side opposite to Gifford?

Interesting. Thought Gifford had been an OLB and I'd have bet on Honas starting at one of the ILB spots.
Not saying I know for sure because it is worded a little funny, but I believe it is the top 3 ILB (meaning Honas, Barry, and Young), as well as Ferguson, Gifford, and Miller. Because the latter 3 are all OLB, although Miller can play both).

there are so many LBs on the roster that some of them are going to be very disappointed when they either don't start or don't play much. lots of guys think they were brought in to play immediately. not going to happen for everyone

Not sure how anyone got that Miller, Gifford and Ferguson are the top 3 ILB's out of that presser?

I agree to an extent. We currently have only 4 to 5 ILB on the roster (C. Miller can play either inside or outside). The only other outside the top 3 is A. Roberts, and I think he still has a ways to go to get his mind and body right to play D1 football.

OLB we have 10/11 (C. Miller again) but S. King and Q. Alexander are not here. Alston will either redshirt or be a special teams player. A. Davis and P. Jefferson it just doesn’t seem like the light has ever turned on for them to climb into contention (Davis maybe?). So that leaves Gifford and Ferguson as the likely starters. Dixon and Miller as likely backups. Tannor as a pass rushing specialist. And Guy Thomas is still in it from recent reports, just needs to get a little more consistent. But I think he will play as well.

So that’s basically 9 guys for 4 positions, which is about what you would want. It wouldn’t surprise me to see any or all of King (Sr), Alexander, Davis, Jefferson, or Roberts to be gone next year. Hopefully Roberts figures it out though.

Edit: we are actually at about the ideal number you would want for total LBs on the roster, though they are skewed too much toward OLB. The LBs make up 4/22 starters (not counting specialists), so you would want about 15 total on the roster. Would probably prefer at least 7 of each, though.

This seems to be about right. Tannor hopefully will have the goods in future seasons. It appears the Hannah kid who is a 2019 commit projects as an ILB. If some roster space clears, LB will be a recruiting need for sure in 2020.

I believe I read recently where all of our current 2019 LB recruits project to ILB. So that will increase the numbers in that spot to 7 (Young graduates, just placing Miller here for convience since he is both). Losing King and Gifford on the outside drops that spot to 8. I think you could reasonably expect 2 more of them to be gone (Q, Jefferson, Davis). So that would bring us down to around 6 there. So I think we take at least 1 OLB in this class, maybe 2.

Sounds like Miller has been moved inside (he is one of 3 guys mentioned fighting for the 4th spot).

Well that clears that up, Miller will strengthen the ILB position with Young, Barry and Honas...

Gotta say...nice job to Sean Callahan. He always has thoughtful questions. Not just going in and clumsily asking "Der, how's the depth chart looking?" He extracted info when B. Ruud didn't appear to want to provide any on the movement of players.

Cally is moving around well and improving as a sports journalist. Agree

If they can't beat out who's in front of them, they don't deserve to play much.
