Long-time posters on here know that my wife is a big LSU fan. When the news started breaking about Herman potentially being the next LSU HC, she asks "Who's Tom Herman?" Once I filled her in, she's definitely ok with it should it come to pass.

Herman was going to get one of the big time job openings. Looks like he's LSU bound.

If Herman is half the coach he's been hyped to be, LSU will be hell on wheels.

All that instate talent and his connections in Texas.

Wow.

This sounds really sketchy. If you read the original story, it's that the Houston coach will take the LSU job, but that he wants to coach Texas and is waiting on them to fire Strong and make him an offer.

It really reads like someone asked them to do a boosters/agents dirty work. It's not news, it's rumors. And ESPN confirming means **** to me since they reported Texas was going to fire him Monday.

This is Hermans agent leaking it to ESPN about the LSU job so Texas can get their ish together and offer him. Total Agent play here. Still Texas bound at the end of the day.

This is probably correct but could you imagine if it's true. Texas would go ballistic. Everyone and their uncle has been saying "Herman to Texas" for a long time now. If LSU beat them to it they'd go beserk.

UT will be ready to riot if the they miss out on him. I knew LSU fired Miles early so they could get a head start on the coaching carousel but if they beat UT to the punch then UT deserves to wallow in it. Although I agree I think it's an agent move to either get more loot from UT or to shock the hell out of everyone when they announce Herman to UT.

I bet Herman goes to LSU. I'd say the way Texas is handling charlly is pushing a lot of coaches from wanting to work for that school. They may have money and history, but seem like with all the outside influences there it may not be everyones cup of tea

Yes, she should be happy. She is probably happy tonight as well the way LSU is hammering A&M. Coach O going out on a high note.

I'm not sure Coach I is going anywhere. Smart OR move would be to make him head coach right after they beat a&m. everyone there loves him. plus I want to see espn with egg on their faces. plus, I like to hear coach I talk.

If I had my choice between Texas and LSU, I would take Texas in a New York minute. The state university of the #2 talent producing state in the country, tradition, great boasters and fan base, and taking over a program that is still a work in progress. With it he also has a great chance to win the B12 every year. OTOH he goes to LSU and he'll be on a short leash to beat Bama and win the West. If he doesn't get there by year two he's on the hot seat and out by year three.

Sorry.

If Charlie can't win at Texas and gets beat by Kansas he deserves what he gets------well, not really, I think he gets $10.500.000 for doing nothing.

Going to LSU he would certainly be under pressure to beat Bama early on. But going to Texas they have boosters who want to have their hands on the program and think they have the right to because they are worth a billion bucks. From a perception standpoint Texas has been passed by A&M, plus Baylor until their little problem popped up and caught by TCU. Texas use to be able to pick the kids they wanted to sign, but that changed a few years before Mack Brown left. Now Strong has pushed it down farther. Herman could put get them back to the top with a big year. I don't think LSU boosters are as bad, but they will expect immediate results and that includes beating Bama.

Coach O is the best fit for LSU, doesn't look like he is going to get a shot, but they could do alot worse. He seems to have learned, him with a couple of good coordinators and LSU talent would be a tough opponent.

Mack Brown used to get those Texas kids until he tried to prove he could recruit nationally like the big boys. He started goin after out of state kids and offering the Texas kids late as a third or fourth option and it ended up biting him in the tush. The other schools u mentioned reaped the benefits.

I'm not talking about beating Ku. Talking about reports he is getting fired since thev first game of the year. Abd the fact the boosters have their hands all up in the program. Does he deserve to be fired, yeah probably. But there is a right and a wrong way to do business.

Give me LSU every day and Sunday. Texas High School FB is overrated in terms of elite talent, plenty of talent to recruit to. Texas or the state of Texas has 1 NC since 1969 and this was due to USC totally throwing away the NC game and fumbling before they went in for 2 TD lead.
There is a reason why Texas has not won much. Too much early commits by Mack Brown, too hyped classes, soft players compared to Oklahoma and the other Texas schools who have a chip.
LSU can recruit La exclusively and win a NC, not completely but very close. UGA, Fla, and LSU can recruit 90% of their classes every year and be in NC hunt. You have to beat Alabama. That is your quest. Texas wants you to hob nob and back slap the boosters, go out and beat OU, put on cowboy hat. The main thing at Texas, you have to be white and not married to a white woman.
I mean the South gets blasted for stuff, Red McCombs called Strong a good DC and not Texas worthy before he ever coached. Mack Brown left Texas in a Post Joker state, terrible recruiting, too many early commits, no QB's. Mack staying one step ahead of posse by being such a great PR guy, he fired DC's and did all he could do. He should have been fired 3 years before.

I could care less if they have all the money in the world, great recruiting base, Austin is top 10 city and great place. They have one 1 NC in almost 50 years. LSU has 2 in the last 15.

Spoken like a true Democrat. That is so untrue or they never would've hired him. He's going to get fired because he's under .500 at TEXAS and just lost to freakin Kansas. He deserves to be fired but not because of his skin color.

I agree with several of the posters above. This is all the work of Herman's agent pitting schools against each other. The unnamed sources have all been wrong so far. In addition, Tillman Fertitta is willing to put up a bundle to keep Herman at UH. Herman will be able to name his price. It will come down to whether he wants to go to P5.

Pretty hard to argue when the first day the guy is hired McCombs is calling him boy and he would make a great DC. Not dog in this fight, he was left in a mess by Brown and throw in the good ole D. Royal crew who like their coaches who drink a little whiskey and wear cowboy hats and play a lil golf.

Right on seccats. Anytime a person of color is fired, some liberal wants to make it a racial issue. What gets someone fired, regardless of the color of their skin, is their Won and Lost record. With the money being paid to coaches today, it becomes more important to win within a short period of time. It's hard to feel sorry for Coach Strong, since he will receive $10,500 for doing nothing, and being a failure at Texas, per their standards.

Better look at that payoff again, think it's a little north of $10,500.

Coach O wins against A&M, Herman and UH lose to Memphis. I'm thinking LSU should stay pat and give Orgeron the head coach job. I wonder if Texas will even back away from Herman now. UH has no defense and fell off quite a bit since they beat U of L. What do you think?
