High praise coming from Chris Beard.
Didn’t Beard also say Askew would be a great player? He had a good season last year of course he has another year left as a 6th year player
TP is still playing scared. He's contributed far more than I ever thought he would/could this year. But he is still capable of having that breakout game where he knocks down 3-4 threes.
Would’ve loved to have had him here as our coach but that got ruined at Texas.
Sears really liked Perry as well. He had a free pass to the basket every drive.

Perry would be very good somewhere that he could play shooting guard and playing zone. He’s not a point guard and not quick enough to play man D. But give him some time, he could help us next year. He’s still only a freshman

TP will have a tough decision. Is the UK spotlight too much for him for another year here or will he get over all of the hoopla and just play ball. He is not a quitter. Does not mean he moves on or stays. I for one always want a MR Basketball of Kentucky on our team. I think he works hard and plays his more natural position next year. In a backup roll and I think he thrives. That again is if he stays. If he leaves he is heading to WKU or some place like that.
Perry can play here IF he is allowed to play to his strengths on offense. He CANNOT play like everybody else is taught to play nowadays. He is barely 6-0 and not a leaper; he will have about 20% success on drives to the restricted arc area. He MUST be allowed to pull up and shoot open 10-12-14 footers. He can make them at a 50-60% rate. He’s a throwback player, can absolutely hit the basket from anywhere, but he’s NOT gonna make these driving, acrobatic “layups” that every coach is in love with now. He’s too damn small. I just hope Pope realizes it and lets the kid take shots he can make.

He will be a good 4 year player for us. He will have multiple 20+ point games before it’s done.
he missed 2 and I repeat 2 wide open threes against Troy...so he won't make them against better competition he will see from now on....plays too scared.... next year? possibly
Sounds like a guy still recruiting him. Would surprise me for Perry to transfer. He’s going to be recruited over every season at uk.
At this point, Perry looks to me to still be what I would call a high school shooter. He hasn’t sufficiently acclimated to the college 3pt. shot yet. I believe that to become a key piece/important role player type for UK Perry either has to develop a really good deceptive handle in space (which I think he can largely do in an offseason working with the right person) or an extremely quick trigger on his 3pt. shot (similar to Gohlke from Oakland last year). I think the former is most important, but developing both would make him dangerous offensively. Of course, that still wouldn’t fix the defensive issues; but I’m guessing he could develop some techniques, tricks, etc. to be passable eventually (others have).

Sounds like Beard is trying to tempt Perry into the portal and either force us to overpay to keep him, meaning we have less money to go after better guys, or steal a Mr. KY Basketball that many SEC coaches have loved to have in their back pocket over the years that they psych-up for their 1-2 game Super Bowls each year. Anything goes in the NIL and Portal Era.

If You are open the competition has nothing to do with it. So he missed 2 shots who doesn’t! I just hope he stays 4 years. He will have many great shooting days if he does. Needs to learn how to grab and hold and poke em in the ribs to play in the SEC.
I like Perry, but I always thought he would be better suited for the BIG 10. Smaller, less athletic players typically thrive there. This new SEC is just a different animal.
The reason this is relevant is that Perry was likely to go to Ole Miss and changed his mind to UK at the end. Nothing sinister here, probably someone from Kentucky asked the question.
