Yeah people probably don't think of Houston as being a top5 market. Everyone knows the big three.. It's NY, LA, and Chicago. But Houston is right there at 4th in population size, and after googling it, it's closer to Chicago than it is to #5 (Phoenix). I wouldn't be shocked if Houston were to take over Chicago as the 3rd largest city.

All that is to say, there's a lot of money in Houston, and not a whole lot of great basketball to demand attention or NIL (as opposed to the amount of great football programs there are).. so I could easily see a pretty storied basketball program like the Houston Cougars gobbling up a lot of NIL.

Something is odd to me about Houston getting 3 top 20 guys under the radar. Is their NIL big? I know they’re a great program but still interesting they’re getting that much high school all American talent in one class.
Fertitta money.

Some of these top kid are gonna stop following Cal. His offense sucks, and he's at Arkansas now.
He can squeeze the ball with the best of them and “The Weave “ don’t get me talking about that thing of beauty!

Lot of big money alumni.

Combine it with the fact that Houston is a pretty popular city with a ton to do compared to most college towns, pro sports town etc….but it’s still has a fanbase (beyond just students) that cares about college athletics as more than passing entertainment…unlike the west coast major cities or north east major cities.

Also helps they’ve been a consistent 1-2 seed the last 5-8ish years so the kids coming out of highschool view them in the same light as Gonzaga…not a blueblood but a current top 10 program with a HOF coach.

Cenac is also from New Orleans so Houston is New Orleans’ western sister town

So Houston has been really good for like 5 years now, how are they now recruiting at this level??? Im going to guess its the Players Era Tournament giving them 1 million in NIL. We should get in that next year so we could spend even more to ensure a top PG and PF from the portal.

Wilson cut Arkansas from his list so dont worry about them getting desperate and upping the offer because Wilson wont open it back up to them.
I’ve been a little surprised that Arkansas/Cal haven’t broke the bank on anyone yet really, particularly big men. I get that you don’t want to overpay but it seems like they’re bowing out of races like with Quaintance when the price gets astronomically high. Don’t mind it though since portal big men usually translate faster anyway but just a bit surprising with how much Tyson talked about going all out on NIL.

Obviously Acuff and Thomas aren’t coming cheap but getting thin on options for high school big men unless Muurinen ends up reclassifying.

I don't trust freshman players at any position. I'd rather have a 5 year college center.
I get that. But having a really good freshman (or maybe better said, a freshman that is really good at a certain aspect already, e.g., rebounding) as the 2nd unit guy can work well. Like Kansas is doing with Bidunga. I expect UK will have Garrison & Moreno as their Center tandem next season.

Houston, BYU and SMU are showing up on several top recruits lists now. They may each become serious Football and Basketball schools in this NIL era.

Sampson better be careful...not many high end kids are gonna be tough enough to play in his system

I think the realignment of stud recruiters retiring and a guy like cal going to ark offers lots of opportunity for teams like Houston. Kelvin Samson knows how to get players when $$$$ is involved
