Is he the coach who drew up the play at the timeout near the end of the game, which resulted in Buie's drive to the basket and floater? That was well done, and it certainly fooled the MSU defender who was on Buie. We see so many close games with the NU players jacking up low percentage shots at the end, that I was glad to see them draw up a play that gave them a better look. And it worked!
Thats a great point. Somehow his inside knowledge of our offensive and defensive approaches and players didn't help MSU last night.
NU’s teams under Collins tenure have always been defense first. A defensive minded assistant coach can’t hurt. Having Roper, Audige, and Berry help a lot more.
He kept telling the MSU players.... Don't worry guys. I know this team. They are going to self-destruct any minute now.
So, they were totally unprepared for when that didn't happen!
Ya know, with 45 seconds to play, NU had the ball and a 1 point lead.
Collins put Beran, Buie, Audige, Roper and Berry on the court, subbing in Berry for Verhoeven.
Free throws and ball handling.
Buie drove and scored.
Hauser missed a contested shot.
Audige rebound.
Buie got fouled and made both free throws.
Ten seconds left, 5 point lead.
MSU's contested 3 misses badly.
Game over.
