South Carolina safety Chris Moody told reporters Kentucky is an odd place to play, when speaking to the media after practice down in Columbia earlier today.
“Just so weird when you get off the bus in the stadium,” Moody said. “A weird place to play. Can’t tell you why. It’s quiet.”
I can't disagree with this, our stadiums traditions and atmosphere have lacked for along time and it is upsetting. From Rupp Arena to Commonwealth Stadium something must change. The only game I can remember attending and being happy with the overall atmosphere was vs. Florida last year. If UK would have done anything positive in this game at all that place would have fell down. I know there are many other examples of this but I unfortunately haven't experienced as many. Theres no tradition and I have no suggestions but I believe something needs to be done. One thing I liked and believed helped the atmosphere was the Blue White chant. Now that has been replaced with someone running out each week screaming in the mic to the point its hard to understand and leaving. The cheerleaders haven't been very good this season getting fans involved and the music had been off from years past. Hell the air raid siren wasn't even present in the USM game. I just find it upsetting that at one point losing a football game was managable because of the great times I'd have at games, now it seems like thats not even a possibility. Rupp Arena is honestly a joke in my opinion. I remember going to my first basketball game a few years back and was so excited I was about to be part of the "best fans" on earth. I was let down majorly, were I sat in the second deck was more involved with the game than the entirety of the lower level including the student section. People complained about others standing even! I am a current UK student and I have and will continue to go and support my Cats I just believe it is time for UK to step up and upgrade the atmosphere all around the sports programs. I believe this is the best fan base and I see no reason why we can't have the emotion and energy that rivals the Cameron Indoor or Tiger Stadiums of the world.
