It's been awfully quiet in here. I guess everyone's been camping at Target.

Bought the wife a gift last week. Went to a nice pottery place she likes and bought some things. Looks nice, has a personal touch, and didn't blow the budget.

I'm sorry, but if you're doing Black Friday for anything more than 1. tradition/walking around or 2. people watching, you should throw your computer in the tub and jump in with it... assuming you even have a PC.

How is this still a thing?

How have people not figured out these will generally be the same prices for the next month (maybe a 5-10% savings)?

The same types of people who do this are like the ones who waited 4+ hours a couple of years ago for a free tank of gas. Waited 4 hours to save 40 bucks. Woohooo!
I would rather eat a raw moose than go out this morning.

You all have fun pepetuating the cycle of overt materialism amongst your wives and children. Pick up some Brawndo, while you're at it.

Want to witness the downfall of western civilization in person? Go Black Friday shopping with the great unwashed masses.

There is zero chance I go rub elbows with that filth and villainy.

We get it. You love going out at 5:30am with your peppermint mocha and picking up some half price Ulta concealer and getting a new bath pillow at BBB. now let the men talk.

It's a serious question at this point. It's not 2001. There's really no need to piss away your Thanksgiving, or even your Friday. Almost all the deals will be there come December 1st. Cyber Monday is bigger and bigger every year.

We're not vehemently against it, or at least I'm not, doesn't bother me. But it is insanely stupid at this point.

Hey, no way I'd shop today. Read a while back that retailers save up substandard goods to throw at the black Friday hoarders. They contract to use up outdated components, etc for those $150 televisions. If that's your bag, fine, but I was actually starting this to brag on what I've already done and see what some of the more creative folks here were planning.

I haven't been out in it, but nice try. I'm more anti-douchebag than I am anti-shopping, though.

Back when I was younger and worked retail, Black Friday was always the day where I wanted to just jump off a cliff. It's especially more difficult when you work at a place with electronics, DVDs, CDs and video games. People are nuts.

I actually feel bad for the employees. You have to either go in at 12 a.m. or 5 a.m. and usually have to park ridiculously far away and then wait on the lowest of the low, watch people try to steal and then fight each other just so they can save like $20.

The people that Black Friday shop are the same people that post challenge videos on social media.
Got a lot of kid's stuff at Target and Meijer. Better deals than online and the stuff my kids asked for specifically. So if that makes me a freak so be it.

This was you trying to get that Turbo Man doll, right?

I'd never go (I'm more of a shop on Christmas Eve guy), but I'm all for Black Friday from the business side of things. Customer segmentation is a spectacular way to increase profitability, but it's difficult to do especially within retail where you don't really have much control as to who comes into your store. 5 AM black Friday shoppers are a different class of shoppers - they're out for the deals. So you lower your price for a day and take care of the people willing to fight the crowds for low prices. Then you raise your prices and go after the rest of the market who are less price sensitive. It's great.

That's what funny about REI and Nordstrom bragging about how they don't open on Thanksgiving or even Black Friday for REI. These are premium companies whose target market is not in the Black Friday crowd. They're not going to lower prices enough to attract Black Friday shoppers to begin with because it will hurt their brand. But they act like they are holier-than-thou, which is clearly not the reason they're doing it.
