I'm considering moving to a Chromebook from a Windows based laptop. Anybody have any experience with a Chromebook? Opinions?

I'm on one right now. Simple, cheap, no real viruses to worry about, not much power, most all accessories work.

If you are just using it as an internet access device and already have a gmail account, it's great.

Not trying to hijack. But I have been looking to get a laptop. Any recommendations? Things like the surface are cool and all but seem overpriced. Mostly home stuff but will also do some excel

My daughter has one for school. It gets the job done for a 9th grader that is in either AP or Pre-AP courses. The only problem we ever have is with printing. Sometimes google print works, sometimes it doesn't. Normally it's a midnight when she's trying to print a big paper.

If you decide to stick with a Windows laptop, look into Asus. Wife and I each bought different Asus laptops in 2016 based on value compared to HP, Dell, etc... We've had no issues whatsoever.

Edited to echo what others have said - if you'll only be using the laptop for simple things like web browsing, Chromebook is the way to go.

I will second this. I bought an Asus a little over a year ago and it has been a great machine. It was cheaper than some of the better known brands and I've had no trouble with it.

Love Chromebooks. Few people really need a traditional laptop today, particularly if you leverage Google apps such as Docs, Sheets, etc.

Have never seen any issues w printing.

My kids have MacBooks. Never a problem. Take it out of the box, login, walk away. My wife has one from 2004 that runs like a champ.

I had a thinkpad for work for years. It weighed 75lbs and was slower than hell.

They just upgrade us to a new HP elitebook. Very light, easy to travel with and super fast.

I’ve never used an HP but the new ones look pretty sweet.
I’ve had this one about 2 weeks. I’m very impressed so far. It’s a good looking computer and it’ll start up and shut down in about 15 seconds.
