Always found it interesting to have the Ten Commandments playing on every Easter weekend instead of the story of Jesus.

Still, yeah.....he pulled that off. Yul Brenner was great too.

A few weeks ago, the wife and I caught "The Greatest Show on Earth," starring Heston and we could not stop laughing at what an overdramatic actor he was in that movie. So, last night, we're watching "The 10 Commandments," which I've seen countless times and again we had a good laugh at Heston's portrayal of Moses. Way over the top and just terribly acting by him, Edgar G. Robinson, etc. A great story, but just terribly overdramatic and lousy acting and directing. He is easily one of the worst film actors I've ever seen. Not as bad as Keanu Reeves, but in a category of bad acting all to himself.

I loved Heston in the original Planet of the Apes.

His arrogant, bombastic tone is perfect in that setting. Much better than the Marky Mark version years later.

Absolutely on the money! As bad as he can be in some roles, others were perfect for him and his style of acting. As you pointed out, Planet of the Apes was a role he was meant to play. Although he played the same type of character in that series and in other roles like The Omega Man, Soylent Green and Earthquake, he really does have an impressive body of work and has created some iconic characters.

No one overacted like Heston. You ever seen Midway? Plays on Easter because it's also Passover.

That's why I always considered Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck and Cary Grant to be some of the very best old school actors. Very rarely over acted it.

I have to admit I still like Heston movies.

Hate to be the heretic, but John Wayne's acting had two facets: 19th Century characters and 20th Century characters and the difference between them is pretty subtle.

His widest range might have been seen in "Stagecoach" in the 30's.

Some people simply enjoy seeing guys like John Wayne be John Wayne. Same with Heston and guys like Clint Eastwood.

People pay good money to hear Eastwood squint his eyes, say something cool with a raspy voice, and fill the bad guy with lead.
