Before the playoffs started I noticed that 3 teams were promoted up a class SHG, Montini and EStL.
I realize the first two teams were subject to the "success factor", however a coach with TF South told me that EStL elected to get bumped. Does anyone out there know how this works (ie: ref, coach, fan).

Does a team have to request this at the start of the season? A month/week before the playoffs, ect..

The only logical rational that I can think EStL would do this was to duck Prairie Ridge in 6a.

I will wait to hear from someone in the know, obviously I"m not one of them

Thx

Yeah ... ducking PR was their intent.

There's also something else. Someone in flyer nation could attest to this. The IHSA used to classify ESL as a bigger school a while back. Then the IHSA changed their enrollment based on not including kids that were in a special school either in the ESL building or just next to it.

BTW, the next time ESL ducks anyone will be the 1st.

Senior high is just sophomores through seniors.

IIRC, there was a formula to account for freshmen but I think that changed and that's part of petitions to play up.

I swear in the broadcast they said one of the WRs was a freshman so you would think they have to count then
They did play a freshman. Not sure how that all works. I'd assume they have their ducks in a row and ask for review like a recover does to make sure he's on the line.

so its like the Bears are scheduled to play Cleveland but they petition the NFL to play the Patriots instead? I realize this is an over the top comparison but if its strictly a pride thing on EStl s part, then my hats off to them for making their path harder.

You have to petition to move up a class

You also have to be in that higher class for two years.

It have to re-apply I believe and commit again for another two year stint.

My assumption is they want to play the best teams possible. And more times than not - that is in the higher classes. The higher you go - the more teams are able to compet with you and test you

This is a perfect example for Stonedlizards "open class"

ESL would jump into it and take on teams like Glenbard West, Loyola, Maine South palatine etc. I bet for this year PR would do the same to try and win the open class state title.

I'm from ESL and played for them. We feel 7A is a better class and we play up because we feel we can run with the big boys. If the IHSA would let us, we would play 8a...Did you guys read the post? I seen comments that said "small ball today" in regards to 1 - 4A....Meaning, the bigger the class, the better the competition. I know that's not always true when it comes to the playoffs but that's the political standard that the world live by so we adhere to the standard. ESL stand up!!!!! The crown is ours!!!! 7A champs

First off ESL petition to play up all the time. The time to compete with the big boys. Ducking PR? Y out have goto to be kidding right?. We will play anybody any time win or lose. We have never or will never duck anyone. When we period up its for a 2 years period wgich was last year and this year had no idea PR would be good this year. I might add PR is great with that triple option this year. I have seen all the talk about PR offense very ESL defense. I will say this not trying to be biased or anything but I think ESL defense will rise up and stop PR offense most of the time. with that being said give us a call would love to play you guys in the next year or 2

Simply put we feel we get treated "better" in 7a rather than going into those small towns in 6 or 5 ... less home cooking
