The young G-Men who are loaded with sophomores and freshman and are growing up. 3 early losses to rival Bluefield, WV, the number 2 ranked WV AA school, Union at Union (ranked 2nd in Class 2 by Calpreps/hsratings.com), and AAA number 2 WV ranked Princeton (probably the 2nd best team overall in the state of WV this year) gave the GMen 3 losses for the first time in regular season in nearly 10 years. As expected, they were raw and youthful, but also as expected, most around here knew the talent would show sooner or later on the field as they got more reps and started to grow up.

Can the GMen go on the road in the playoffs and beat a Union to win the region? Union is loaded, but Graham has rapidly improved and it will be a close battle. Even with 3 losses, dont count the GMen out of the mix in 2025. The future for Graham is probably the best its ever been. Loaded with talent in the 8th, 9th, 10th grade classes and maybe the best 3 classes theyve ever had. This is the year to get the GMen if they are going to be gotten, but even this year, they got a shot.

Favorites right now have to be Armstrong, Union, and Glenvar, with Graham, TJ, Strasburg, and Poquoson all in the mix and capable. But, the computers from hsratings/calpreps had the Gmen losing by 13 points four weeks ago to Armstrong and Glenvar and Union. Now, the computers have Graham beating Glenvar and losing by Armstrong to 6 points and Union by 5 points.

Go GMen!

How are they liking their new on-campus stadium? I haven’t seen any talk of that.

Computers will get more accurate as we get later in the season. Even then, anything less than a touchdown is really 50-50 odds.

Grahams stadium at the High School is coming along. Before this year, the last time Graham played a Home Game in Bluefield Virginia was around 1931. Home games after that were played in Bluefield, West Va, so people are excited. The turf field and backdrop of East River Mountain and the local neighborhood is beautiful. Graham High is weird in location. Its old. Its location is literally surrounded by a neighborhood and you could throw rocks from the school steps and hit homes. Its that close.. Literally surrounded by a neighborhood which makes the stadium location nostalgic or 1950s or 1960s like when HS stadiums were often tucked inside a residential neighborhood.

The field is turf and track is done and scoreboard is done. It still needs seats, lights, restrooms and a visitors dressing room. Funds are still being raised. Hopes are that its finished by next season's start. Will hold about 3500 to 4000.

The Graham vs Bluefield High, West Va rivalry game will still be played at historic Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, WV, which was the longtime shared home field of both schools. Mitchell Stadium is a city stadium like Darling or Todd Stadium in the Hampton Roads. Mitchell holds 12000 and the Graham-Bluefield crosstown rivalry game will remain at Mitchell as this game draws between 10 to 12 thousand each year. More people come back home to the Bluefields from around the country in August for this event than they do Christmas. Mitchell Stadium hosted VT vs Marshall back in the 1950s. Graham will be giving up Mitchell Stadium for its knew smaller stadium and there was major resistance to this. But most in Bluefield, VA, have now come around and full steam ahead with the new stadium located within Virginia at the High School.
