I think it really depends where the cutoff is... Are schools like Morris, Geneseo, Highland 4A or 5A???

I expect Coal City to be the top I-8 team the next few years, wouldn't surprise me if they are playing Rochester at some point

Isn’t EIC going to be in 4A this year. If so then I see them being able to dethrone Rochester.

All.... That is correct IC is taxed up into 4A. Bringing back 7 on offense and eight on defense from the title game. Not many of them playing both ways. ratsy

I think Althoff will compete. Not a class of world beaters, but they will be there at the end.

Why do you think this? Not knocking their program at all, but just curious about your thoughts. I think the new I-8 format is a great thing for the conference and I really only see one or two perennial cupcakes that will be on each teams schedule. If you win the I-8 you earned it and should be in good contention for a deep playoff run.

That being said, Coal City is usually tough and I know they can throw the ball well and their QB will only be a JR next year. I guess the real question will be what do the other teams return. Peotone is on the rise, Herscher has been solid as of late, and Wilmo always reloads. As far as CC playing Rochester, you are absolutely correct I bet they will one year soon too. Probably not in the Championship game though. I don't see them getting there coming from the north and they go south about half of the time.

Also, can we get the I-8 powerlifting meet back? I remember all 8 teams cramming into Coal City's gym and recently it has turned to garbage. Wilmington against Coal City only...... WTF is that?!

Peotone loses everyone, not sure they can keep their recent success going..

Manteno brings back their QB and couple receivers, but don't think much else

Plano and Sandwich should be better, but I think 5 win teams at best.

Streator will be CC toughest competition for the Large

Herscher- Lost a ton of skills, but one solid linemen, Dorsey and younger Koranda leaves a few bullets.. but the 4 wide might be shelved for awhile.

Wilmington- keep Novembers open

Lisle- ????

RC- new coaches, same result?

Thanks for the overview. I'm more of a casual fan now so I don't really pay as much attention to conference games as I used to. To be honest, the large/small split really killed it for me. I'm also more selective in the games that I attend. It takes away from the experience when the game is decided before the visitors even get off the bus.

Who wins I-8 when it returns to the old format with one conference and no split? That could make the Wilmo/CC game prime time again! Let's hope it stays on the schedule for week 9.

So who are some of the teams to beat in Class 4A for the 2018 season?

Post em here.
If Rockford boylan can make the playoffs they could make some noise. Several athletes but thin on offensive line.

I need to add that there is no multiplier for them next year. Their enrollment was 895 this year and I don't believe there incoming freshman class is large, so they could get sneak into 4a

4A contenders: Rochester obviously remains the King to be knocked off...

Elmhurst IC's elevation to 4A likely will leave them in the same position knocking on the door to 5A...

I-8, the dividing line between N & S, should be interesting. Herscher largely gutted, but a strong possibility they drop to 3A. Coal City returns their starting soph QB who added more of a passing possibility to the Coalers, they should reload. Manteno could be rising, as they return their QB and the O-line, a problem the last couple of years, should be improving - one of their returning soph starters father played at Nebraska and looks promising, hopefully the Panthers can run the ball out of a regular read option again...Streator is the 5A monster...hard to read Plano & Sandwich...
