The south is a lot tougher than the north. Even if you removed ESL.

Why even play then. Just send trophy to ESL the other teams can just turn in the gear and get a start on basketball season
Well, IMO, ESL is the best team in the state, and they are in 6A. They are easily the most prohibitive favorite. My guess is the best chance at an upset would be Prairie Ridge in the final. They would need to grind the clock and keep the ball away from ESL's offense. Bad weather would help too, which could be more of a factor with the state games in DeKalb and later in November than normal.

Only way ESL loses is if they penalize themselves to death. They could have and should have put a running clock on Batavia but to many penalties killed them.

I know we still need to play the games but if ESL shows up it's going to take a monumental effort from someone to beat them.

They can beat themselves, but not sure anyone can beat them.

In 2013 ESL was in 6a and held Richards to negative yardage in the state semis and found a way to lose. Poor special teams and turnovers did them in.
I've been trying to forget that cold a$$ day. *sigh*

I think you hit the nail on the head mc140. These are kids and anything can happen.

Don’t recall any turnovers in that game.

Isn't this year's team a lot better, at least offensively? A follower of ESL may need to comment on this.

A missed extra point, hordes of penalties and six turnovers loomed large, as the Bulldogs, despite struggling to move the ball the whole game, outlasted the host Flyers 7-6 in a Class 6A semifinal contest that featured tremendous defensive play and little in the way of offense.

The Bulldogs won the contest despite finishing with negative 25 yards of offense and two first downs the whole game.

Against NV I think they had a couple issues with injuries on the OL, replacing starters with freshmen and it limited the run game. Maybe line depth is an issue. If a team like P-Ridge can wear them down on the LOS there could be a way. I would make ESL the clear favorite though.

I stand corrected.

ESL hasn't been wore down on the LOS since the loss to PC back in 06.

Wisconsin was a 31.5 point favorite over the ILLINI and they lost. With an unknown weather scenario and the fact that anything can happen on any given day, I would say ESL is definitely the favorite in 6A, but in no way should they start etching the trophy.

Herm Edwards said it best "you play to win the game." Both teams will be doing just that.
