I looked for a thread on this and couldn’t find it. Apologies for a duplicate. Finally saw this on replay. Such a great film from ESPN. I love that team so much. So many things are
on my memory from that team.
1. The defense of Dawkins and Amaker on the perimeter. I just remember steal after steal and pressure after pressure on the other teams guards.
2. Johnny Dawkins short jumper from just inside the foul line. He must’ve hit that 1000 times in his career at Duke. When I think of Dawkins I think of that lefty shot from about 10-12 feet. So great.
3. Mark Alarie and his great baseline jumper and such fundamentally sound defense. His body positioning was so good so often, as was Jay Bilas’. They weren’t super athletic but they could get in perfect position and I constantly remember Alarie cutting off the offensive player with both arms daughter-in-law up in the air.
So wish they had won that final. Really thought they were the better team.
Best line from the film, imo: K’s prayer before the Navy game in the elite 8. “Please. Not Navy.”
