$150/semester really isn't that bad compared to all their other costs of attendance. It will just be buried into a loan for most, and they won't even think about it until 4+ years from now. Nobody will care enough to push back on it.

A lot of colleges do this. James Madison charges an athletic fee of 2,362.00 according to some websites. This isn't new and isn't just a handful of colleges. WKU charges 436.00, Florida charges 57.00, UK charges a whopping 14.00.

Here is a website with a listing of what many of them charge.

I went to college in 1983. We had an athletic fee back then. This maybe totally separate, but I think it went to cover your attendance to athletic events. It was Murray State, so it wasn’t like anyone was knocking down the door to get into a football game. This could be NIL, if they are specifically earmarking it for that, but I don’t think athletic fees are new.

$150/semester addition to tuition is basically nothing. Smart move by Clemson and any other program that does similar.

I don't know why the Athletic Department wouldn't just go to the president and be like "you know that $80k/year tuition fee you guys are swimming in? Yeah we're gonna need a piece of that for NIL".

Just take it from there.

I don't view it as monstrous as a lot of people.

My Freshmen year, WKU was D2 in Football. They decided to go D1. And they point blank said they were going to have to raise tuition. to make it work. They even held a big forum where students could go and voice their concerns. And then they did it anyways.

Schools have been doing this forever. This is just the first time they've probably really called it what it is.

How much more do some of you pay in school taxes after your property value has been revised upward? I would trade that for a $150 fee right about now.

Yeap. Soon games will be attended by Taylor Swift, Pink, Madonna and anyone else with a pocket full of money. Angelina Jolie will be in good company.
Why would their attendance be an issue? I don't know if you have bought any single game tickets lately, but you need a "pocket full of money" to get the really good tickets.
