But, if I were at the Crest Chevron. I'd definitely be on the old man bench.
WAIT? There’s an old man bench at the Chevron where one could sit , eat his hunts brother’s pizza, drink his peach slushie , dip his Copenhagen and make fun of folks coming in and out of the store ?

A slice of pepperoni hints brothers style , a slushie and then chase it with a dip of Copenhagen , I could sit with the rest of the old farts and talk all day!!! Or until I got ran off from the Chevron which could happen ha ha
Well, North Lincoln spoiled my bracket hopes. Us and KM have brutal roads now, but let's line up and see what happens.
Some of them teams above us. They hate looking down that bracket and seeing us.

The Southwestern 3A Conference was elite. I played in it. There were no easy games and every single team was well coached. Those games were dogfights. I can remember most of the SW3A teams having to schedule a lot of 4A schools for non-conference games because many of the 3A schools in other conferences did not want to play any of us lol.

Man this brought back a lot of great memories.... Bunch of great games with some great ball players from this county and that was a special season for Burns and Crest....
i went to the Crest/Mt Tabor semi-final game and to this day, that Crest band halftime performance of Jesus Christ Superstar was the best I have ever heard...Found it on Youtube recently and still get chills to this day when they hit this spot in their program...Call me silly or whatever, I dig this to this day 30 years later
Man it is amazing how one year can just be programmed in your brain like it was yesterday. I was in 5th grade. I am almost 41 now and can remember every single game from that season. We were one of many who spent the night in Chapel Hill to watch history be made. We knew after Burns won that we would see Crest win the next day. The ride back from Forest Hills the week before will be one that I will not forget either. That year was what did it for me. I was all in on high school football. You can take College and Pro away, I would be fine. Nothing like Friday nights. It also made me realize how much I miss Ron Greene. I didn't realize how much he did for me in the early 2000's until I became a father myself. He was molding us as men and we didn't even realize it yet.

He was spot on too. I remember my dad pulling me back. I thought everyone was running to celebrate and little did I know all hell broke loose. You could hear people yelling that someone had a gun and everyone scattered. Things got calmed down but getting that log and stomping on it after making that comeback put them over the edge.
One of my friends was an assistant coach and we always went out on the field to talk to him after the game..... Man, it was downright scary out there when everything went to hell. The trip back around the field out to where we had parked was just as bad....
So the moral of the story is...never touch another man's log.
Most years Coach Greene didn't have much to work with.... But he's definitely on the Mt. Rushmore of Cleveland County coaches...

4 schools. 4 first round home playoff games for Cleveland County. How many counties can say that? We're spoiled by great football in CC
I was in the middle of that brawl. I was 10 years old. Got separated from my dad & was scared to death. Thankfully one of my friends dads found me and got me back to my dad. Good times
I believe if Crest plays ball they beat EG and then they will go up to Oak Grove and win as well. Cleveland County football is different ask the WC coach.
Vs the better teams they played, only averaged 6 points per game. Had a 6 game winning streak, all con games, but the average ranking of the teams they beat, using max preps rankings, was in the 270's. 5 of those teams have a worse ranking than North Gaston and Cramer. Average ranking of teams Crest beat is in the 140's. Looks like they want to run the football, which Crest has done a good job with stooping. Their 4 loses have come to good football teams so they have seen talented squads.
It's one and done in the playoffs so mess around and find out. Crest needs to play focused and take care of the football. They do that, and I think they are ok. Let them hang around late and it's a whole different pucker factor.

EG is in conference with Dudley and I’m kinda looking forward to seeing how good that conference is..
