First time poster and long time mountaineer. Just like Joker I have heard that we have an excellent coach with many championships that will be coming to KM. This post has nothing to do with him as we will support him 100%.

I will say I am disappointed and surprised that our DC (DWil) isn't getting an opportunity but will support our principal and ADs decision. Lloyd brought him on in 15 and we've had a remarkable 8 seasons. I didn't even realize till I researched MaxPreps how well we've done. I'll list the accomplishments since 2015.
87-20 record
3 big south championships
17-8 playoff record
Multiple Defensive POY
Multiple ALL State defensive players
3 regional finals
Our record vs present coaching staffs in CC
Burns 7-1
Shelby 3-1
Crest 1-0
South P 2-0 ( I'll throw them in since they are a great program as well)

I guess KM not winning the title has hurt him but I'm terribly disappointed for him.
IMO we got hosed in 19 vs Catholic but that's just my opinion. Not throwing any shade at them. I just wonder had that overtime went our way I believe the narrative would be different. Crazy how one questionable call can change how others see you. Before GL arrived in 07 KM was a joke and by far the worst program in CC. We are a strong program now and have been a top 5 3A program since 15 when DW came on board to run the Defense. Nothing against the guy coming in but he definitely won at a school with elite talent year in year out. I'm sure he will do well and will have all our support. I just wanted to give love to our DC who has put his time in. Good luck to all the teams next year. You guys all have great coaches and programs.

Excuse me but f—- sentimental hires. I like Daryl but that doesn’t mean he is entitled to be head coach. We need someone from outside with fresh eyes. Hiring internal defeats the purpose. Also our last internal hire was a disaster. Bringing in a head coach from outside with a championship resume who knows how to build a program is a home run any way you look at it.

SD I respect you and your opinions on football in KM. I just think DW has done a very good job and that's all. Time will tell. The principal and AD are of great character and will do what's best for the KM program.
I like where KM football is today and where it can continue to improve in the future.

Crest guys salty? I think you guys are in a good place? I don't see this slowing you guys down. I've been to games across WNC over the past few years and all 4 CC schools are top notch! There are tons of schools that would love to have any of y'all's coaches!

Daryl deserves consideration and is well respected in the KM community but it's hard to turn down a multi state championship winner.

Why the heck would crest be salty ?
We have the best coach in the county , a very bright future . I wouldn’t trade any other school in the county position for crest right now and in the future.

Being a defensive coordinator and a head coach are two very different animals. If a coordinator is basically running the program under a head coach then I would be all on board but this isn’t the case. This hire shouldn’t be about kids that are there now but the program and the kids who are coming up in the next 5-10yrs. When the late Coach Massey left KM for Kannapolis, Coach Massey left the program in excellent shape. KM was set to hire Mark Barnes from Scotland and good old KM politics got involved behind the scenes leading Coach Barnes to accept the job and then later coming back and declining for family reasons which wasn’t the real reason. KM hired Dave Farqueson because he was a great assistant coach and he literally ran the program into the ground. Coach Farqueson was the sentimental pick of some on KM. Great assistant coach but horrible head coach. That’s why the KM program was in shambles when Coach Lloyd took over. We do not need to repeat any past mistakes.
