The circumstances behind Union and UC merging is typically not good because of low numbers but it makes sense. Bryant even said it is long overdue and I agree. With Burns numbers declining every year it would not take long to see it trickle down and it has with low numbers. Combining those two should be a permanent move. #54 is a menace for his age but if you look at the team as a whole, the middle school is about to reload. It gives you an idea seeing them all together. As I have said before, I would almost think Burns drops to 3A or very close to it by the next realignment.
I know how you feel SL. Those kids I coached at Union are now the Freshman and Sophmore classes at Burns but the Midgets and Pee Wees that season are now the current upperclassman. It is rewarding to see how they have grown. I understood every word Bryant said when referencing that. RRR Podcast is doing great things in the community. Being Burns grads has shown no bias either. They have really started to build a platform that covers the entire county through all leagues. Much needed!
RRR is the best. I enjoy the content very much.

This season has gone by too fast. I can’t believe we are in the last week of the regular season. We then have playoff brackets released on Saturday. The last week of games in CC is a doozy. Conference titles and playoff seedings are on the line. I expect all four county teams to get after each other pretty good. We definitely have our work cut out for us this Friday.

The way our conference and RPI is going, it looks like Burns and Shelby already have a pretty good idea of their seeds. Burns would be 4 or 5 and may be 4 regardless. I hate the amount that our new system has diminished the importance of conference title. If Burns beats Shelby, the best they can get I am hearing is #4. If we lost to Shelby, the worst is #5.

We do too man. KM is the real deal.

I feel like and this will not be popular but I feel like it'll be a low scoring defensive slugfest.

But, I'm usually wrong.

I agree with you. I believe it’s going to be a defensive slugfest with field position, special teams, and turnovers dictating the outcome. Crest’s DC does a great job of mixing things up on that side of the ball from week to week. I definitely applaud his defensive game planning skills.

I wasn’t sure about you guys but we are pretty much locked in as a #4 seed. I am pretty sure that Crest is in the running for the overall #1 seed in the 5A west.

You never know either team's approach....but no way this is low scoring slugfest. Crest can score on KMs defense any series and I believe the staff at Crest will understand what they have to do to slow down what KM wants to do.
I DO think KM can beat Crest secondary some.... but will the qb be upright to throw them the ball? That will be the question.

as weak as 6a playoffs appear to be....KM may limp through the end of the season like usual.....but they will make a little run since they likely won't see a legit contender any earlier than the 3rd or 4th round. Might see Ashbrook in third.

Crest defense ranks #1 in the Big South while KM’s defense is #2. KM qb has rarely been sacked all year. KM o-line is actually pretty good overall pass blocking and run blocking but because SP pulled away late many of you come on here with critiques that don’t hold up under the light. SP had a great defensive game plan that we did not adjust to enough. KM had 372 yds of offense with 256 of those yards rushing while SP dominated time of possession. SP is an anomaly due to offensive scheme that no one see but once a year. Football is all about matchups. KM nor Crest’s performance against SP has no bearing in the KM/Crest matchup.

SP will make a little run until it runs into JM, Crest, EL, Franklin, and possibly Monroe in the 5A west. QUOTE="DeBoer31, post: 192211338, member: 456524"]

I think the 6 is possible if we lose because West Stokes doesn't have to play. Surry Central cancelled their season so it depends on if West Stokes can get a no contest which won't affect their RPI or if they have to take a forfeit win which would add 9 losses to their OPW%.

Km ranking partly due to not having had to play the toughest conf. teams til late in the season. It's not an insult....just like last year ya'll didn't fall apart like it was reported...you just had to play some killers in a short span. KM was a good team with GOOD talent last year no doubt.
It matters, it always matters. Both took something away from watching each other play SP.

Just looking at rpi...what's the other western team that may give us the 4th verses the 3rd seed? All I can see in front of KM is Asheville and TC Roberson.

It would be crazy if KM and Burns would win and all 4 teams would end up 8 and 2 and 6 of the losses would come from each other.
Both of these games have interesting matchups. I could see both coming down to 7 points or less. One game in CC had more than 28 points scored by one team and it was the 32 KM scored on Burns in week 2. The rest of the games were very close. I expect more of the same this time around.

Whoever stops the run the best.

Crest has 2 starting quarterbacks, so I give them the edge by 8, KM defense tends to stall 2nd half soooo

Back to Crest and KM. I didn't realize this but the best wins KM has this year are Burns and a 5-4 Catholic team. That's the two teams with winning records they have beaten

I don't know what that means for our game but I found that interesting..

We will be the best team that they have played all year. IMO.. Win or lose that is a fact.

We lost to Weddington by 14 and if one is objective we played well in that game but those short fields we gave up helped a great team even more.

Crest has beaten Burns, Shelby, South Point and Asheville. All of which are ranked highly in their classifications.

I'm just searching for stuff to discuss hat isn't Gaston County.

That is what makes the Shelby and Burns game so interesting. We played the exact same schedule. They beat KM in week 1 and we lost in week 2. Other than that we both beat the same teams.
Common opponents later in the year worth mentioning would be SC and Lincolnton. Both of us played SC very close but the Lincolnton games were complete opposite. We scored 56 on Lincolnton and Shelby scored 9. We allowed 35 by Lincolnton and Shelby allowed 6. A week later SC put up 41 on Lincolnton.
None of it matters but on paper it's a chess match in my opinion.

NC retirement and SC coaching salary. The right move. If you look at what Lloyd did at EG then you know he could turn some things around for Blacksburg.
Heard this could be a potential move before season ended last year and heck the Coach don’t even have to move he doesn’t stay far from that area

Real honest to goodness question… who does SP have to pay off in Cleveland County to get a decent schedule?

A bye week in the final week of the season....with every CC team playing each other? Surely thats just a coincidence.

Does CC at least send Thank You cards to the schedulers?

Smart move. He gets paid. The pressure is minimal. If he has a winning season here or there and makes them somewhat competitive.

They’ll build a statue of him right in the middle of Temu Earl.

If he can get some of those Gaffney kids that don’t see as much playing time. He could have him a small school powerhouse

When it comes to Burns and Shelby you can blame the state. We only have two non conference games. Both of us have to play Crest and KM the first two weeks and then it’s conference the rest of the year. KM and Crest play SP in conference. Drop Highland Tech and Cherryville and I’m good with it. 4 non conference games opens more doors.

There can be some realignments after this year can't there? Schools can petition for a new alignment after 2 years, right? Hopefully Highland, Cherryville & Bessemer City do that.
