i have heard as well that Jason arnette is the running man for head coach, yikes!!! mediocre when he was at Harrells, had a nephew that played for him years back, also heard some wild things about the end of his Harrells tenure. I would hope im wrong though, Sampson county football is better when Clinton is competing. I think it would be in their best interest to get together all resources and throw the kitchen sink to bring back Cory Johnson.
You just need to worry about Adam Scronce not running for the Hills on your sorry wildcats
Heard it was Arnette too. Last time I checked winning a few Conference Championships and playing for 2 State Championships was not mediocre. He was also a really good DC at Clinton before Harrells….but carry on…..

Congrats on winning at Harrells! Where you don’t play anyone good until late in playoffs! They haven’t had a team in the last 15 years + that could beat Midway, Clinton, Lakewood or Hobbton. Only reason they had some success a few years ago is because the threw some money together to snatch some wallace players. If he likes paying players then maybe he is the guy for Clinton U! Perfect match everybody… but carry on…

Better bet for C Town would be scronce. Going to be hard for them clinton athletes to make the switch from air raid passing attack to wing t under Arnette, Scronce was able to do it at Hobbton because he walked in with a ring on each finger, Arnette would come in with nothing.
Heck, im not opposed to hobbton putting clinton on the schedule if that happens!!!!!!!
I think hiring Elliot from Lakewood would be a good idea. He was the DC at Clinton last year would be a solid option.
Did you see that defense last year?!? Granted, that was mainly coach Boykins influence by all accounts I've heard. I know the majority of the Lwood community is split on him for various reasons, not sure how he would fair as head guy in Clinton, he would return with good regards however. Still not sure its the best option.
Clinton doesn't need to hire an alumni or former Clinton coach again. They need to get new blood in there. If they keep hiring based off where you graduated they will hire Union's HC to start 2026.
Know their were some rumblings about him last time Clinton was open, I think he fits what the Clinton faithful would be looking for. However, its gonna be hard to snatch him away from Midway due to the personal ties there but hey, Clinton is yet to beat him. I think Coach Elliot from Lakewood is another good option, heard a lot of good things about him while he was at Clinton. Its anyones guess at this point. Come to think of it, would Rocky Lewis be an option?? That last name alone would get him a shot.
I agree! Clinton would benefit the most from hiring outside, I know the Cory Johnson era ended in dramatic fashion, but it cannot be understated what he done for the program. Somebody with a different set of ideas rather than the same old ways of doing things. Work can get tricky when you go to hiring your local buddies.
Maybe the old timers shouldn't have that much say so. A good coach is a good coach.
The old timers AKA The Clinton Mafia will be the reason this hiring process will be horrible again. This ain't the 80s, 90s and 00s anymore times have changed. If I was the Clinton higher ups I would keep them out ENTIRELY and take this process very very serious.... lots of interviews and hire the best man not the crowd favorite.

Don't think I heard of any community member, player or coach with something positive to say about Coach Boykin, they need somebody whos focused on building the program and the players, not somebody who has a good meeting or interview, car salesmen do not equal wins or program development!!! Scronce would be a great pick because hes won everywhere hes ever been as an assistant and now head coach, and he learned under and with some of the most notable coaches on this side of the state, theres plenty of good options out there im sure, its pretty well known Clinton is one of the most enticing jobs in the whole state.
Start fresh...Arnette will be a better coach than the last no doubt but he will not get clinton to clintons ceiling..but all of the "clinton mafia" love him and would love to hang out and go golfing with him on the weekends im sure..it will be a shame for them to fumble this.
I will ruffle the feathers here. The only thing Cory Johnson did for the Clinton program was to recruit players from outside the Clinton district, give them an address in Clinton, and sit the Clinton kids on the bench - He has done the same in Marlboro County. This is why Clinton has dropped off since his departure - none of the Clinton kids were coached or got reps. Let the fireworks begin.
I know Sampson county teams are praying Clinton hires Scronce away from hobbton. If he stays at hobbton he’s whooping Midway, Lakewood and unions *** the next couple of years. Lose lose for midway though because if he goes to Clinton they losing if he stays at hobbton they losing.
I just keep up since Coach Elliott moved out there. I know he liked the kids at Clinton just didn’t agree with the team leadership. When he was back here for a game he had on Lakewood while he stood on the sideline. Said he felt good about future at Lakewood. I do know if given time Lakewood will be strong and have discipline. Seems y’all got some good options out there.

Maybe Lewis will make another heroic return..... he left Clinton every time there was a drop in talent and then when they had a good group of athletes they let him walk right back in like nothing happened. 3 separate stints at Clinton its about time for a 4th.
Why would he be taking them with him? When he is trying to come back to N.C.
Dumbest thing I've ever heard. He is getting paid well over $100k in SC to just coach football the dude isn't even teaching a class. No where in NC is that happening, shoot I think we got like 3 or 4 in the entire state making over 100k. He can do whatever he wants down there and controls the entire ship administration and all.
