CNN may skip White House correspondents dinner

I hope the dinner goes away for ever. It is useless and only a chance for the elites to celebrate each other. Serves no useful purpose except self congratulations.

But this shows, in another way, the elite media's thin skin and lack of professionalism. Trump has trashed CNN, so they take their ball and go home. Childish, imo. This also demonstrates to me an inability of CNN to ever be trusted. If they can't "lower' themselves to attend for fear Trump may be there, how can we possibly trust them to report on his actions without prejudice?

Stupid move on their part but it will do some good if this ridiculous dinner is done away with forever.

I believe more and more Americans will never know the difference if they attend or not, just like most Americans probably could careless if the dinner ended or went on for infinity. By the way, who's emceeing this year, Dan Rather, or Brian Williams?

Oh my goodness, you and I agree on something, that's a surprise. Get rid of the correspondents dinner regardless of who is POTUS. Get rid of a bunch of other fluff in politics too. The Patriots are going to the White House. Why?

Agreement again. Sports teams at the White House make no sense. Now, if a sports team representing the U.S. like the "Miracle on Ice", then I could understand.

If I remember correctly, this is usually kind of like a roast of the president. That could be very dangerously entertaining this year.

Prior to World War II, the annual dinner featured singing between courses, a homemade movie and an hour-long, post-dinner show with big-name performers.[1] Since 1983, however, the featured speaker has usually been a comedian, with the dinner taking on the form of a roast of the president and his administration.

As I understand it, the dinner has a host who routinely excoriates the sitting President (Obama being the main exception although a few comedians threw a little shade at him). Trump will get annihilated. CNN's decision not to attend must be based on their fear of what Trump will say once he takes the stage.

There was a good chance Trump would have cancelled. CNN should have waited. This makes them look very, very bad and incapable of covering the President fairly.

An assumption on your part, but not without merit.

I think this would have determined who had the thinner skin, Trump or CNN.

I'm not sure how anyone can have a thinner skin than Trump. But with this stupid act, CNN may be getting close. It makes them look petty and small and actually reinforces some of Trump's points.

So they may skip their own dinner? Interesting. I'm sure their guest will be disappointed.

So, do we now admit that President Trump has thin skin and a lack of professionalism? Or is his skipping the dinner justified?

Trump would have gotten destroyed and they'll still have fun at his expense in his cowardly absence.

I think it's justified. Why go to a dinner to be roasted when they're doing it everyday in their respective outlets?

Why would anyone want to expose themselves to the criticism of an idiot enemy? Mostly, roasts are among friends and intended to be in good nature.

Wasn't that the point of the dinner though? To allow a President to find the humor in self criticism, and bridge the gap between himself and hostile press?

Because they do that everyday anyhow? It's not a friendly relationship with any Republican.
