I don't envy Capel at all in this spot. There are still so many things that are unsettled and uncertain. He not only has to coach, he has to find a way to get these guys to buy in and gel as a team. Not to mention deal with the Grayson bs.

I understand this is a bit of an audition for the guy, so I'm rooting hard for him because I think he should be the next in line at Duke. Which in and of itself is an unenviable position! Here's to a change in fortunes, in what I believe is the stangest I've ever witnessed in the 25 years of being a fan. I'm rooting for you Coach Capel!
Obviously we are all behind him. But it's not like he's coming out of nowhere and having to figure it out alone. He's been there every second of the way. The guy handles so much already as he associate head coach.

Still won't be an easy task given the microscope this team is under and the fact that everyone in the media is watching to see how he handles the team as most people think this is an on the job interview....

On the other hand, he's coming in after 3 straight poor showings, so in some ways the bar has been lowered before he even starts. He seems like a players coach, so to the extent there are internal issues, I suspect he'll straighten things out. Kind of weird to say but I'm almost happy for this change, even for a month, time to look at things differently and maybe try some things Coach K wouldn't.

Assuming Coach Capel is willing to do that. I'm hoping he tries some different things as well, but we shall see on Saturday against BC.

If Capel can get these kids to play DEFENSE with pride, passion and intensity then he would have improved the team dramatically. A team this long and athletic should be causing PROBLEMS on the defensive end. Guys aren't hustling back and aren't talking. I LOVE defense. It hurts my heart to see it in this state. Offense is much more complicated and i suspect any struggles there with chemistry and cohesion was expected but there should never be any excuse for such poor defense.

I'd be pretty shocked if Bolden is starting....not that it really matters. Amile is having an All-ACC type season. I guess the question to ask is why in the world would anyone start Bolden over Amile? Doesn't even seem to make a little bit of sense.

It would be moronic at this point. Great game tonight and great rotation and performance from everyone.

Agreed that it makes no sense whatsoever for Bolden to start over Jefferson. Bolden looked good tonight, but Amile has been on a completely different level all season.

Yeah, not starting Amile is a head scratcher. He's had his best year, provides much needed leadership, communicates on defense, and you know what you're going to get from him. Bolden might get there, but he's definitely a work in progress. I did like what I saw for Bolden, he looked vested in the game and actually had a motor.

If moving Amile to the bench is for the betterment of the team do it. Two years ago, Amile was having a great season.

Yeah, no reason to start Bolden. But in my opinion Amile's play has significantly dropped the last few weeks so giving him more rest and not relying on him as much would be a good thing. He struggled rebounding big time vs gtech when he was the 5.

ughhhhh....

The changes that happened to make duke extremely good that year had little to do with Matt. I'll leave it at that.

From Espn:
Medcalf:
The 2014-15 Blue Devils were young at multiple positions, but they were also cutthroat. Jahlil Okafor, Justise Winslow, Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen did not back down in a national title game against a Wisconsin squad stacked with veterans. If I'm Krzyzewski, I'd want to see that same fire from the young players on the current roster. A sense of urgency. A toughness. Duke went for the KO against Georgia Tech. That's the attitude Duke will need to reach its ceiling.

Its time to ride those freshmen(Tatum, Giles, and Bolden), the way we did two years ago. Amile is a team guy.

I liked Amile at the high post. Allows him to make his spin moves and also pass into Harry. He also calms down Harry a little when it's needed. I don't see Bolden ready for more than 15-20 minutes right now based on one good game.

I'm eager to see how Capel does coaching this team in K's absence. I feel like this will give us a better idea if we want him to be K's successor or someone else.

My opinion. We will see Capel use somewhat more of the bench. Maybe a little less Matt Jones and more of the freshman. I think Bolden will get more minutes as well.

The team that played last night was a complete 180 from the team that played in Blacksburg. Here's to hoping Duke keeps this momentum going while K is out healing up.

I think it is possible to get out of January with only 1 loss. And if Duke can do that with how tough January is I think that will be great.

Bolden comes off the bench to help Harry. Those two in together are 10 fouls waiting to happen. Space your foul trouble out. Amile at the 4 is abundantly clear as the best option for the team, he just has to adjust how he plays with another big in the game.
