He and Gran both seem to be tireless workers,and they are popping up every where in Florida.

He seems very impressive. I like the "we have to make the QBs comfortable being uncomfortable". Living in Orlando, I remember him when he was the QB at UCF.

That's very true but to be successful this season the positions of QB and oline will be critical .

I agree and I believe the run game will be pretty good. The interior of the line is experienced and has talent. We will be up and down at tackle.

Hinshaw is an intelligent guy that seems to know his stuff. With so much unproven talent at QB it's going to be huge that we have a coach soley dedicated to coaching the QBs through every step, decision, and throw. Hopefully it helps them progress much more quickly than we could've otherwise expected

any coach will tell you that the job is much easier if you recruit to the style you play... i got no clue how our guys on offense measure up to what this offense is designed to do... for instance it sounds like Hinshaw values footwork over hand size... it sounds like he has a way of measuring the success of the candidates and the results could surprise... i'm thinking there are more than a few don't even know Davis Mattingly is a QB. ...... but all this could be just coach-speak... we're all too familiar with that.

When I listened to Dawson speak pre-season last year it was laid back and gave the impression our team had "arrived" already. Hinshaw gives me the impression of urgency or that we have lots of work to do and the QB's are responding well but boot camp is just starting and they will be learning under stress. I like it. I have to say I was never really impressed with Dawson speaking, better description of Dawson speaking would be amused.

I watched the interview video and saw Vaught sitting comfortably in a theater seat, ready to jump on the first twizzler like quote that came along... Since I don't get paid to make a story out of nothingness, I'll just listen to what the guy (Hinshaw) says and let his coaching speak for itself come September... Whether they have DWS footwork or hands the size of Trump... Henshaw will look like a genius if UK gets 6 wins....

Well Johnson & Hoak didn't learn their habits from UK coaches & Wright ought to be fine given Hinshaw was his coach last year too.

Johnson will thrive in this offense. He doesn't have to be re taught and his experience at the juco level will be invaluable!!

didn't gran and hinshaw recruit hoak and barker out of highschool? i think that bode's well for fitting the system.

Two of our QBs were not even here last year so its hard to call his comment on footwork a shot at the last coach.

I think he is just giving an objective opinion on what he is seeing

My biggest criticism of this staff is how they have handled the QB position going back to their first day on campus. Now I'll have to find something else. [winking]

Wright has to sit a year and is a walk on. Hoak is 17 years old and is not a viable option for the starting spot. The 3 guys getting the most reps are Barker Johnson and Mattingly. 2 played here last year and the other is a first year juco. I never said they learned all there habits from UK coaches but it is safe to say the 3 main options did not learn there bad habits in a couple months.

All kidding aside going against huge corners in Westry baity and Harmon is really going to help the wr. Then you add 2 really long corners in Robinson and Griffin these wr should improve on contested throws.

Thought Hinshaw said he would have to be retaught because the defenses he will be going against are much quicker than what he has been playing against. He will not be able to loop his throws as he did at that level.

Your always going to learn new things switching coaches and offenses. Johnson learning curve is probably pretty darn big right now. I promise you he did not see any 6"3 and 6"4 corners that moved like Westry and Baity in juco.

What about the part where he said what was going on last year with the QB play in the games? He was directly aiming at the previous coach. Last week comments about QB and WRs being under coached by previous coaches surfaced and then Hinshaw says something like this.... It was more than just an objective opinion.

I think it's just a technique he is using to tell the players that last year is over, no excuses are allowed. Accept the new drills and instructions or it's next man up! It's the clean slate thing.

Then again, it could have just been a jab at the last coach :boxing:

Good point but my main concern is how Nick's mother is handling him going to work for a man with that kind of moral turpitude.

The advantage that Johnson will have is that he comes from one of the fastest paced offenses in the country at the JUCO level. Gran has said that the goal in practice is to have the ball snapped in under 18 seconds. Johnson will have more game experience and he will be more adept at making the offense lined up, making his pre-snap reads, and getting the ball out fast. Playing that fast can be a big adjustment for any QB that's not played that way before.

Johnson will have to adjust to throwing into tighter windows at this level but he should be mentally prepared for the offense Gran and Hinshaw will run

These kids have been playing football for many years now, they'll learn new techniques and disciplines very quickly.

We have a disturbing situation with the qbs on the roster. Barker is not a runner and was recruited as a packet type passer similar to Towles, No doubt he's a good athlete and can run but how well? Hoak is a dual threat qb but a freshman. Johnson is a dual threat but of unknown potential. The coaches picked Johnson because they evidently thought he was a fit for a system where the qb should be able to provide a running threat.

The coaches and the qbs have their work to do. I hope there is a true open competition instead of just coach speak. I don't care if a freshman, a JC transfer, or a redshirt starts as long as they are truly the best we have and not the favorite son.

I am not real sure how much running the qbs will be doing. Looking at the rushing stats at cincy the qbs ran very little. Obviously Johnson will run more than Drew but even Stephen is more of a pocket passer.

I think some folks are reading too much into the fact that our new coaches want/require a QB that CAN run. While I do expect to see the threat of a QB run in our offense, I DO NOT expect that threat to be an emphasis or even a significant portion of the offense.

There's no physical reason that Barker won't be able to perform the tasks required in the Gran/Hinshaw offense.
