Sorry to hear about the young man. Former player?

Perhaps you should turn on the news.

I dont think Coach K overreacted one bit. If he thought the students were mocking Capel, then yelling at them to shut up is the right thing to do. We now know they weren’t mocking Capel, and Coach K apologized accordingly. No harm no foul.

Well stated.

I guess I'm surprised this has blown up as much as it has here. Obviously K thought the student section was saying, or meant, something completely different. He was wrong. He apologized.

Intensities can run high. Couple that with this being a very difficult week for K and he lost his cool. But again....he admitted he was wrong and he rightfully apologized.

What more could I, or anyone, be missing?

Seriously.......you’d think he punched one of them or something. Especially on other boards. It’s unreal how big of issue this is being made out to be

Luckily, I've been traveling today and was able to ignore it. No sense in going to other boards trying to defend it. A lot of people don't like K and they're going to think what they want anyway. There's never a shortage of K hate....

If only he were part of an earlier thread, he'd have been calm enough to avoid such things.

I'm sure his apology was taken serious....he loves those "crazies".....For decades their "creative' enthusiasms have given his squads a competitive advantage....

A loud environment, a man in his 70s.... things get misheard. I am 38 and I am always saying "Huh? What?" to my wife when she talks. Partly because I have ringing in my ears from a lack of hearing protection when hunting, partly because I am ignoring her. lol
Ray Donavon is that you.

If you read the book 5-point play about the 2001 championship season, it talks about every game that season. One item of note is Duke’s second round game against Missouri. K hates coaching against former players, and he told the assistants he needs them to be there as he is very emotional.

I can only guess the emotional feeling watching Capel go to not only another school, but a CONFERENCE school at that he may have to play 3 (or hell maybe up to 4) times a year.

2. Add to that he just saw Capel get a tech after a series of horrible non-calls.

3. When a lot of things are going on at once, K might have noticed it in the middle of the chant. He stands up for opposing coaches (see: fire Mike Jarvis) if they are being chanted at, and when do the Crazies ever chant something positive (for good reason) at an opposing coach or player. K could have only heard Capel.

4. If it wasn’t for three 3’s made in a row, it is a one possession game at half. While Capel is a hell of a coach, the talent gap is wide enough Duke should have some more space than needing a three-point barrage to assert control before half.

5. Kobe Bryant.

Wait, wait, wait! Let's all refocus here a bit. K throwing a barbecue for the crazies is a fantastic idea! And, for the record, I want in. You all can discuss this ad infinitum on this here message board. Me, I want to party with K and whoever else has the good sense to show. Heck, maybe Zion would show up.

Anyone other than Duke are always looking for something to be negative about or Coach K so it should come as no surprise that they jump all over this in a negative way which just shows how ignorant they are. Yes Coach K didn't quite understand what was being yelled. With what he thought was being said his reaction was warranted. I admire him for that. He apologized also for what he should have apologized for. If I'm not mistaken the chant started shortly after Capel recieved the tech. Now knowing the crazies Coach K may have thought they meant get tech and come sit with us. Whatever I say it's over. If anything it might have fired them up because they got into the game in the second half. I guess the reason we keep going on about it is because it gives us something to talk about. Maybe if I think real hard I can come up with some off the wall new thread that eventually will be hijacked probably by myself. OFC

It's ridiculous that K and Duke are in everyone's dome to the millionth degree. Maybe he should put an indefinite suspension on himself and then coach Saturday to really get the natives ginned up. Sheesh:rolleyes:
