Now that Coach Payne seems onboard with NIL, I am now curious if coaches are allowed to donate to a NIL collective. If so it would be effective for him to put his money where his mouth is and do some sort of match challenge. Perhaps he could match up to $300k. That is less than 10% of his salary and certainly would personally benefit him because he could use his coaching skills on a presumably higher caliber group of players.

logically thinking i don't think he could contribute. NIL is supposed to be separate from the school and technically not supposed to be offered until a player is signed with school, and NIL is not to be used as a recruiting tool, ie you're not supposed to have an NIL in place before you sign with school. so based on that i'd think coaches are not allowed to participate as would then be direct connection to school. o/w school should be pumping the fund with money which they cannot.

You know they’re not to supposed to do a lot of things by the rules but??? I remember hearing where Alabama offered a high school quarterback recruit 1 million to attend Alabama. I am sure they are not the only ones doing this.

Last time U of L was involved in any way with sidestepping rules and laws the athletic department self imploded. Which probably happens when you’re inexperienced and don’t know what you’re doing.

Suffice to say we can’t afford that again…

Are coaches not allowed to contribute to NIL Collectives?

Don’t know, I was referring to comments about getting away with certain behavior in a gray area.

I do know from a reliable source in the “502” group that it’s against KY law for a player to be recruited using a financial inducement. So I’m not sure how NIL money can be used to get better players regardless of who contributes…
