Pope's enthusiasm is off the charts. Cal was a great representative his first few years but a huge difference was it was always about him. Pope, instead, is always talking about the program. He talks about taking a recruit to the top upper nose bleed section of Rupp to show them how important Kentucky basketball is to the fans including at each game there will be someone who has never had the chance to see the game in person. I don't see Drew or Hurley ever having been able to focus on the program itself like Pope is doing.

Pope is special. I'm not sure I can remember when I've ever wanted a person to succeed more.

I don’t know why, but even before Wall’s major endorsement of Pope, I’ve always felt he’s not as tight with Calipari as some others like cousins. It always seemed to me like Wall played for Calipari because of business only, and during that time a player like Wall really didn’t have many options to have the major brand for one year. UNC did recruit Wall but it was toward the end and he probably didn’t trust Roy in that era to give him the keys. Duke was the same way, so being from the state of NC I think that played a major role. Kentucky was really the only place that would sign off on what Wall wanted that also came with the major brand which meant a lot in the mid 2,000’s and early teens. At that time I think Calipari was really Wall’s only option, or so that was the perception.

I have always thought it had nothing to do with Calipari personally it was just what he needed to do. He’s always seemed to glide to his own way and wasn’t overly infatuated with Calipari like cousins for example. I believe it even more now with his obvious blow by to team Pope.

Wall is as of now top 3 players of that era to me, and probably top tier in my all time. He’s been very smart the way he’s handled this. Cousins was flat out stupid, at the end of your career as an NBA player, your college program (if a place like Kentucky) is your bread and butter. You don’t piss off this kind of fanbase. Cousins will turn it around when he figures this out.
