Coaches poll - 23

So, down 1 spot, which isn't awful considering that teams almost always get punished for losses. GWU makes its first appearance in the poll since the Joe McKeown days, and Seton Hall jumps in, which I think means that this week is the first time that three New Jersey teams are in the poll at the same time.

Top 5: 1. South Carolina (same as last week, 25 1st place votes, down 2 from last week), 2. Connecticut (same, 7 votes, up 2), 3. Baylor (same), 4. Louisville (same), 5. Notre Dame (up 2).

Presumably the reason Notre Dame is in the top 5 here and not in the AP poll is last night's game.

Big Ten: 6. Maryland (up 2), 15. Nebraska (same), 18. Iowa (up 3), also receiving votes Northwestern (34th, down 8 spots, 12 points, down 23 points), Minnesota (t38th, 6 points, didn't appear last week)

Other RU opponents: 7. Tennessee (down 1), 11. North Carolina (down 1), also receiving votes: LSU (37th, 7 points, didn't appear last week)

And I believe GW gets no votes in the AP poll and now is ranked in the coaches poll.

There often are differences between the two polls (and the coaches poll, in particular, often gives votes to teams that aren't in the AP voting at all), but it's rare to have something this stark, and for two teams at the same time.
