That's a bit of a myth. Their ranking has little to do with how they play. It may have more to do with how opponents perceive them. Pollsters always miss on some teams. Iowa is the type of team that's easy to overlook because they don't win with sexy or superstars that grab the attention of pundits.

Who are the two clowns who gave first place votes to Clemson?

Miami (FL) #10? After losing the nation's top QB? LOL.

Shocking - SEC schools Alabama, Florida and (especially) LSU make huge jumps compared to end of last season for no reasons other than hype. Michigan makes a similar jump, but at least they boast a win over national champ Ohio St at the end of the regular season (and then Alabama in the bowl game, who is, of course, ranked higher).

Nebraska will not be ranked but will be much higher in the others receiving votes in the AP poll. They actually won 6 games last season, and all the dumbass sportswriters and broadcasters have been waiting 20+ years to be the first to say that Neb is "back."

Most of Iowa’s great seasons in the KF era (‘02, ‘03, ‘04 & ‘09 in particular) involved pretty tough schedules (PSU & Mich all 4, OSU 3/4).

Iowa’s strengths of schedule in 2021 and 2023, where they are frequently accused of being 10-win paper tigers, were 23 and 19 respectively. Hardly considered “weak.”

2015 (59) and 2019 (31) are the only seasons in which the success of the season could be attributed a great bit to the rather weak SOS.

When this team is good, they play well. When they suck, they suck (‘11-14, ‘16, ‘24). I have actually found strength of schedule to not mean that much.
