I’m sure the ISU fans said the same about Hoiberg before he left for an NBA job that he wasn’t ready for. Money, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level, talks.

I’m hoping that Ben wants to stay and build something great here. We can pay him a big-ish salary to compete with other schools. But do we have the NIL budget to get the players he wants?
Frankly I'm not sure Bens all that worried about NIL. There will be funds, but he wants tough guys, not guys that are in it for themselves. That was straight from his comments after the Florida win...

Agree. If Ben has aspirations to coach in the NBA or at a blue blood, there's probably not much that can stop it from happening eventually. But I said the other day, if Ben ever leaves, make sure it isn't because of money. Pay the man.

I think he'll be paid; that's not gonna be an issue with Beth in charge. The only issue imo is whether or not he has enough NIL to compete, and that's where fans & boosters have to step up.

Ben said a year ago that bigs in the portal were too expensive. I wonder if there was a big that he really wanted but didn't have the NIL for it. As we know, we could have used a big on this year's roster and everyone wants to land a big for next year's roster. Well, we all want nice, expensive things; we only get them if we have the money to buy them.

I bet that’s getting extended and increased before the end of the month.

Bill Self is making, on average, $10.60M annually (5 yrs, $53M). He is pondering retirement.

Ben is making, on average, $3.79M annually (6 yrs, $22.75M).

I hope Ben is really, really, really happy in Iowa City. ;)

Rick knows ball lol.

“Yeah, if I was the North Carolina AD and I’m not, he’s far better at his job than I am, I would hire without question T.J. [Otzelberger] from Iowa State,” Pitino said.

No. 14 Iowa State defeated No. 15 St. John’s 83-82 on November 23 in the opening game of the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas. Pitino has great respect for Otzelberger, who will coach No. 2 Iowa State against No. 6 Tennessee Friday night in Chicago, where he will no doubt be asked about the North Carolina opening.

“He has a small buyout [$4 million], he is a great person, he is a great coach and he would do an unbelievable job at North Carolina,” Pitino said.

Leaving for UNC & the ACC would be a lot easier than leaving for Kansas & the Big 12.

If Ben ended up being Kansas' next coach, they wouldn't be paying him anywhere near that kind of coin. That kind of coin is reserved for coaches that have multiple natty's and final four appearances (in D1).

I never said Ben would be making $10M but he'd be making a lot more than $3.79M.

After factoring in a plethora of bonuses, Mick Cronin at UCLA makes well above $5 million per year. I would think Kansas would be paying their next head coach at least that much and likely a million or two more.

I don't doubt that Ben would be making a lot more than $3.79M if he went to Kansas. I can also say with about 100% certainty that he will be making a lot more than $3.79M at Iowa next year once Beth and he sit down and renegotiate his contract.

Its being reported UNC has been talking with several coaches agents for the last month.

Also there is some speculation that Bill Self may retire. They have Ben maybe #5 or #6 on a potential list mostly as a fall back if the heavy hitters say no.

Doubt many heavy hitters would say no to UNC, particularly with that coach down the road with the impossible last name to pronounce or spell gone.

UNC is the first of possibly two or three “plum” openings likely to come up in the next two weeks. I’d be more worried Ben might seriously entertain one of them.

Well, you are the board drunk waddling over from the Off Topic forum, so your opinion isn't worth jack sheet. After all, you are the nut job who thinks Kirk Ferentz & CJ Beathard are Nazis & racists simply because they vote Republican.

Chishawk1425 was your handle on Iowa Rivals and you never did answer if .14 and .25 stood for what you blew during 2 different stops.

As @Hawkman98 (a LEO) famously said about you, "No wonder Chis hates law enforcement so much."
Why is this ok? You’ve gone after him multiple times without provocation. It’s BS. The quote you’re responding to is perfectly reasonable. You can disagree, but do it with an actual argument or counterpoint.

It’s unbecoming to get all sensitive and personal.

IOWA/Beth can only give Ben so much of the $20.5M in revenue sharing. Boosters have to fill in the rest. Hopefully they will so that Ben can be successful in Iowa City for a long time.

But Ben is like all of us; never say never.
WTF are you talking about? Profit sharing is an allocation from revenue for student athletes. Has nothing to do with a coaches salary.

Chishawk1425 (now posting as @RoseBowlorBust) is a clown who waddles over here from the Off Topic forum. He goes after everyone who doesn't agree with his politics 100%.

And I don't agree with what he thinks of Kirk Ferentz. Nobody should. It's embarrassing what Chis posts about Iowa coaches and players and he should be called out for it.

I guess i needed to be more clear.

But that’s not what you did. I don’t care who he is. You went personal, I guess because you don’t like him? Grow up.

I am so sick of jay bilas and his advocation for going scorched earth on the system that he has milked for tens of millions.

He seemingly loves 18yr old kids transferring 4 times when a coach barks at them.

He never talks about fans...you know the people that pay everybody, including him.
Smug prick rich dukie.
Is he not right about the coaches?

Ben has worked for 22 years to get out of small time BB with countless sleepless nites like the nite before the Florida game when he figured it out at 3 am.
Coaches do that for decades making peanuts.
They are professionals who earn the right to make career moves for family to support.
And only a small percentage actually make it big

Colleges are non- profit institutions that provide free education for hundreds of students to compete on the field of play.
Bilas would have all revenue go to men's BB and football and eliminate all the other sports they finance.
They should just detach from the schools and become the Riverside River cats FB and BB teams.
Then we would discover the actual nil value of the Iowa Hawkeye brand....no built-in fan base...g league type of attendance then..see what kind of cash they would reap then.
Long bus rides, training in HS gyms, eating at arbys....reality check

That has nothing to do with coaches leaving their schools in the lurch and also now taking entire teams with them. It’s BS.

Ben jacobsen of uni took the Utah st. job today after a 20+year run for panthers.

Only room for one head bb coach Ben in the state.
Tough deal for uni just got tougher.
