First, let me say I think PK did not handle the coaching search very well. Taking a second look MIGHT suggest otherwise. I believe MC was a top choice all along, however because PK had to wait to interview him till his season ended PK went about continuing the process of interviewing potential candidates. I don't think Cignetti, Rhule or many of the early interviewees were offered any contract to coach PSU or were seriously considered. As the search went on it became obvious PK had not found the right fit and continued on with the process. Reaching out is not the same as offering a job.
With coach Sitake, PK was getting anxious and pressure was building from all sides and perhaps he {mistakenly} thought he found a good fit for PSU. I don't know how he could come to that conclusion as it is/was obvious coach Sitake was not a good fit by most metrics. Coach Campbell then Interviewed and PSU realized they had found their man. I will admit that I wanted Coach Campbell from the start, after watching videos and listening to him speak I thought he most exemplified the spirit Joe, Rip and even Bill and James brought to PSU. As it turns out PK was fortunate that MC was still available and interested. I admit that I am a Joe Paterno guy, I think it is important to remember how and who brought PSU to the lofty heights it now occupies in present day CFB. We are a top ten program by any metric, and any argument otherwise is just plain silly. I believe Coach Campbell will continue the great tradition that is PSU football and bring us to even loftier heights. Of course, None of this could be true and PK could have "lucked out". In the end we got a good man and a great coach and I believe PSU will once again rise to the top of the CFB world. Time to move forward.
