I can hear the Cheats now saying Coby didn't say that because he's always been a Heel.

K obviously knows much more than I do, but Coby White, along with Kennedy Meeks, are two recent Heels I always wonder why we didn’t go after more. Both guys weren’t ashamed in admitting their love for Duke...at one time, at least. White was figured a strong Duke lean because he liked us so much.

Coby isn't a point guard, though. He's playing the position this season, but that's more out of necessity. Maybe it had something to do with Romeo Langford, who for a while, it seemed as though we were leading.

I should preface that I'm not mad we didn't go after White (or Meeks), but it's always seemed odd because both were 1) right in our backyard, and 2) both seemed enamored with Duke. They also both could play.

I agree that Coby + Tre would work fine, but on defense there would be liability. More importantly, maybe Tre didn’t see it that way. That concern likely gets first priority.

Or maybe White didn't see it that way. He's not a true PG, but he wants the ball in his hands. I don't think he's much of a distributor, but he wants to shoot it every time he touches the ball.
.
And, remember, it wasn't just Tre. It was Tre and Cam. Heck, by the time Coby was seriously making his decision, K had a pretty good idea that RJ was going to reclassify and commit. And Coby wouldn't look as good sharing the court with those guys. Going further, Coby might have worried that Duke was stronger with Zion that the rest of us figured.
.
Even without Zion, on a team with Tre, Cam, and RJ on it, Coby comes off the bench. For about the same number of minutes as Jack White. Maybe somewhere less than Jack, but more than AOC.
.
Look, Coby is better than most folks thought, but a lot of that is because he gets to be a top option, and handle the ball (aka call his own number). None of that would be the case at Duke. Sure, we could use his perimeter shooting, but we'd have to take one of Tre, Cam, RJ, or Zion off the court to play him, so...………
.
He made a good decision for him. If he'd ended up at Duke, he'd likely have had a monster sophomore season, but he'll have 2-3 million dollars by this point next year, so, he'll be fine.

I remember really wanting Meeks. I had fun at his expense but I too wanted him, to be truthful. Oh well.

It won't work. Little is a early teens pick at worst, and there is no way Coby is still available by the mid 20s. Heck, he might not be available by the time the 20s roll around. They'll get first round grades, and they gone.

I can't imagine K would not have loved to do this. Despite his statements at the time wrt "dream school" status, I think Coby wanted another situation.
.
Look, Coby has been better than people thought he'd be. UNCheat thought he'd be a 2, but more likely 3(at the least), year player. At the time of his decision, I'd be willing to bet that he would have been worried about his role at Duke given what our roster was likely to look like. He made a decision that UNC offered a clearer path to PT, and he was correct. He'd be a bench player at Duke this year. He's a starter at UNC, and will be a top 20 pick in the NBA draft as a result. He literally made millions of dollars thanks to his decision.
