Coach Edwards was one of the innovators of college football, just as Emory Bellard was, with the Wishbone offense, which Daryl Royal perfected at Texas. Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant went to Texas and learned the Wishbone from Coach Royal.
The Single Wing offense was started by Glenn "Pop" Warner, and we will see another innovative offense in the next 10 years. The defense is always playing catch-up.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

The Air Raid had its roots in his vertical passing game. Loved watching his teams. Won a NC there and that was one of the great achievements in college football.

I was at BYU during his final season. One of the great innovators of the game. Won the 1984 title. Has a coaching tree across the NFL and college filled with some of the best in the business.

My wife was a freshman at BYU in 92-93 - not sure if she would know who he was :-/ She was more into the Jazz than football. Transferred to Utah Valley which is where Mark Pope is head men's basketball coach.

I thought Paul Wilma was the best sports call in host in Lou. I called what's when Van Vance retired and asked for him. Never understood how he never got that gig

Paul and I talked about that situation...politics in broadcasting business, also. He would have been great for that job!! He became suddenly ill and never recovered. Loved his cougars and cats!! Nobody around now that could touch him in this area!!

And nobody even those that cheered for the Red had a problem with him being a Kentucky guy...one reason was he was very fair and classy one the air. WHAS missed out when they went with Cruise and then McClain over him...
