Today former UK baseball great was named as the manager for the Mariners Double A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers. He is stepping away from playing to take this role. Pretty crazy that a guy can step away from playing and immediately be named a manager of a fairly high minor league team. The Mariners must think fairly highly of his intelligence as a baseball player.

He left UK 13 years ago or so. Where has he been playing? In the majors?

That's great news. One of Lexington's own to boot, not just UK. Congrats Double C!

It's just crazy that it's Double A and a manager spot rather than say a position coach.
Oh I know. "Heres keys to the Cadillac son." Usually guys who show a proclivity for coaching the dugout during their playing days still have to prove themselves as you say. Almost makes me wonder if there's more to the story with the Arkansas team and their front office. It IS weird, but it's good for our guy so hell yes 👍
