Lol gotta love the white guy to white guy comparisons.

I do think they are similar. The biggest differences to me would be Singler moved slightly better laterally aka he wasn't a massive defensive liability.
Hurt is a better outside shooter and probably a better rebounder.
Singler physically tougher.

I remember when Singler signed that I thought he would be the next Dunleavy but was I wrong. He was a tough player.

Would be great if he’s similar to Dunleavy and Ferry. Unless he goes elsewhere, then I hope he’s like Murphy.

He is same size as Cameron Johnson. I believe he announces on 4/19.
If he signs with Duke it should count as another assist for Tre.

I liked TJ Leaf in college a lot. Ryan Kelly never wanted to post up or bang inside and I never could understand why because by his senior year he was a decent size. The NCAA tournament isn't built for guys who can't take fight through contact. We sure learned that this year.

I see a lot of Ryan Kelly in Hurts game...however doesnt he see himself as a one and done? Can this kid play in the league in a year??

Singler physically tougher than anyone else on earth, ever, including that caveman who singlehandedly beat that sabertooth tiger to death with his hands.

FIFY.

Singler was the personification of toughness. If Hurt can be anything like him, then I'm sold.

I see way more Ryan Kelly than Singler, Kelly was special too, but, not Singler. But that's me. Kyle was a special kind of player. Once in a while a kid comes along who could leave after one year and stays all four. Not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but damn, why is Kyle's jersey not the rafters? It's rare for me to get teary eyed after a loss. Usually I am mad more than anything else. But damn if I didn't get teary eyed in '11 because I knew it was the last time we would see Nolan and Kyle in Duke unis. Kyle gave it all every single damn year. All of himself. His jersey deserves to be hanging up in the rafters. No question. IMO of course.

TJ Leaf was an impact player his freshman year. Kelly was not. Hopefully Hurt will be. I'm sure he sees himself as a one and done.

Kyle Singler topic, so let me take another opportunity to say, his number should have been retired. You boys hit it on the head, he was literally as tough as nails. No Duke player has played more minutes and I don't know if K ever asked more from anybody. If Coach told him to join the ladies field hockey team, Kyle would have done it. No to mention he was a champion and a great defender.

I know, it won't happen. But still.

Singler played inside most of his first two seasons because we needed him to. I don't think Hurt has any interest doing that.

Singler was always bleeding and on the floor. He was like a 6-8 Wojo. Prob. one of my top 5 Duke players ever. Hurley, Hill, Brand and Battier and Zion. Ok 6.

Great comparison. Both are sneaky athletic. Both are like having coaches on the floor. Both are heady players. Both are real lunch pail types....
Are they both great locker-room guys? Always play for the name on the front of the jersey? Hard-nosed gym rats? High motor, deceptively fast, glue-guys?? Extremely cerebral? Probably a coaches dream too??

I don’t think Singler is a good comparison. They basically have the same height and wing span, both high IQ. That’s all I make note of in terms of glaring comparison. Singler was the jack of all trades, he was never great at anything but decent/good at nearly everything.

Hurt reminds me of Ryan Kelly.
stretch 4’s (prolific 3pt)
same body frame
great ball-handling for size
excellent FT shooters
high IQ / good decision makers
decent post offense for scrawny frame

We will see how they compare if Hurt comes to Duke. It will be hard to compare him to Kyle if he should decide to go else where. It will be hard to compare the two even if he comes to Duke. I can't ever remember anyb two Duke players being a like ever since I was a Duke fan. OFC

You’d think that with all the stars and notable role players we’ve had that there’d be some comparisons but there’s really not.

Matt Jones always reminded me of DeMarcus Nelson. Both had a goofy looking shot but were great 3pt shooters. Excellent defenders. Nelson averaged more PPG but he was around substantially less talent than Matt. I’d also say he was a touch more athletic.

Nelson was much more athletic than Jones. I sure hope a freshman Hurt is better than Kelly as a frosh.

Debatable.

Nelson was surrounded by virtually nothing his jr/sr year. Josh McRoberts, that’s about it. Matt Jones was surrounded by blue chippers. So it’s hard to say.
I guess but I always thought Demarcus was a freak athlete warrior
