I don’t think Singler is a good comparison. They basically have the same height and wing span, both high IQ. That’s all I make note of in terms of glaring comparison. Singler was the jack of all trades, he was never great at anything but decent/good at nearly everything.

Hurt reminds me of Ryan Kelly.
stretch 4’s (prolific 3pt)
same body frame
great ball-handling for size
excellent FT shooters
high IQ / good decision makers
decent post offense for scrawny frame

Ryan isn’t a bad comp. I’d go outside of the Duke family a bit with Hurt. Zach Collins from Gonzaga fits the bill. Ryan was all offense coming in. Hurt is at least a decent rim protector much like Collins. The respective outside games are in that Euro-big mold.

Hurt right now is not even in the same zip code as Singler defensively which is why it hard for me to compare those two.

Hurt has the tools to be a good defender but just needs to buy in. A lot was said about how Zion wouldn’t be a good defender this time last year too...

Cam Johnson comp is interesting. How about Dunlevey? If the kid has anything approaching Singlers heart, I want him.

I see a lot more Dunleavy than I see Singler. Singler absolutely loved to mix it up inside. Hurt does not love to mix it up inside. But he's a better athlete than Ryan Kelly, with better ball skills.

Singler was tough as nails and a warrior. Always gave it all and like Jim said he didn't mind mixing it up at all with anyone. There are a lot of Singler moments and two stand out in my mind. One when he dove over the scorers table going after a loose ball and Kyle walking down the court with that grin on his face with a little blood trickling down his face. I can't remember who Duke was playing in either game but both were vintage Kyle. I haven't ever seen Hurt play. I like all Duke fans would like to see him at Duke. But until he says I want to play at Duke and I see him play the way Kyle played there is no way to compare the two. It's not fair to either Hurt or Singler. Maybe in a few years we will be discussing Hurt and how special a Duke player he was. Until then it's Kyle a special Duke player that no one I can compare him too. OFC

Hurt reminds me of Joey Beard. Almost identical defensive stances. Beard was a little faster. Similar shooting strokes. I think Hurt has better range

I see way more Ryan Kelly than Singler, Kelly was special too, but, not Singler. But that's me. Kyle was a special kind of player. Once in a while a kid comes along who could leave after one year and stays all four. Not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but damn, why is Kyle's jersey not the rafters? It's rare for me to get teary eyed after a loss. Usually I am mad more than anything else. But damn if I didn't get teary eyed in '11 because I knew it was the last time we would see Nolan and Kyle in Duke unis. Kyle gave it all every single damn year. All of himself. His jersey deserves to be hanging up in the rafters. No question. IMO of course.

Why Singler’s and Nolan Smith’s jerseys are not hanging up in the rafters of CIS, I will never know. Those two are my favorite Blue Devils of All-Time.
