Compare the UK defense to Vanderbilt's defense.

Mason and Stoops were both highly regarded DCs before coming to Vandy and UK.

Even though Stoops has been on the job a year longer, it seems that Mason has built better defenses at Vanderbilt.

For those who are familiar with the technical blueprints of both defenses, what are the major differences/similarities?

Not a complete answer, but we don't have anything close to a Zach Cunningham.

Mason has better linebackers and he plays a lot of zone/man combo and his players pursuit angles to perimeter is sound

Stoops D needs elite interior lineman to succeed, his FSU lineman fired off the ball this group plays pattycake

Stoops also starting 7 sophomores on defense. And where was vandy when he took over? Franklin did not leave the cupped bear by any means.

No, but seriously I agree with you. Franklin left the roster in fairly good shape.
