Having issues with FF (Firefox) on my laptop. A script keeps popping up which either slows down my activity or freezes the page. It's been going on for weeks, but the last several days it's multiple times per day.

Geek Squad has remotely accessed my computer the last 4 working days to fix the issue, but it pops up a few hours later and once again the very next day. Today, they told me this is a Java issue that FF is having a problem with. Basically, Geek Squad claims they can only temporarily fix the issue, it's up to FF to solve the problem they're having with Java.

Does this sound right? If not, is there a solution to get this fixed?

TIA

I use Firefox on Mac, Linux and Windows platforms. Haven't had any issue with Java scripts or slowdowns. Is it only on specific pages you visit that kicks the whole thing off? Or just at random times unrelated to page visits? If its specific web pages, someone else might be able to replicate the problem.

Is it an "unresponsive script" popup alert? It sounds like an issue with this site.

I have Adblock Plus running and don't encounter the same issue even when I disable it. It could be one of your browser extensions, too.

I suspect it's a script served by an ad. If you haven't tried Adblock Plus, try it and see if that fixes it. If it is a site problem, I wouldn't count on HOL/Yahoo for a swift response, though.

Of course I didn't look at it closely. It just gives me 3 options, "stop script", "debug script" and I don't remember the third option.

I will try Adblock Plus, also added YesScript, appreciate the tip!

FF is brutal on my phone, so difficult to quote/respond to posts.

Java or JavaScript? Sounds more like JavaScript by your explanation.

Could be an issue with a malfunctioning extension. Might consider disabling or deleting every extension and running "bare" to see if the issue remains (Options/Settings toolbar button, Add Ons, Extensions). Assuming that doesn't help, as mentioned, could be an ad that is causing the problem. An ad blocker may help.

If all else fails and you really want to dig into it:
  1. Right click on a page that gives you problems, select Inspect Element.
  2. Select the Network tab on the resulting pane.
  3. Reload the page. This shows all of the network requests that page is making. Look for something like a 400 or 500 range. These are hanging or failed requests, and will probably be red. The URL of that failed request might give you some insight into what is hanging, if that's is the issue.
  4. While in there, you can also click on the Console tab to view any JavaScript errors.

I use adblock plus as well and don't have your issue. Another add-on you can try if you have this issue more is called NoScript. There are many settings to NoScript, but I think adblock plus will fix your issue. I'll post the link to NoScript though.

Hey Tim, did you get this sorted out? Another thought I had is that maybe if you see that message again and look closer, it'll give more information somewhere, like the URL of the offending script. That can help you filter out the offending domain with one of these plugins if need be, as well as report the issue to Rivals if they care to deal with it.

So far, all is good going on 2 days. Appreciate the advice!

Does adblock notify when it is blocking something? I have a Malware one on right now and it notifies me about "blocks"

I was having the exact problem until I deleted Adobe Flash Player on my laptop & desktop. I reinstalled it on my desktop. Then when I reinstalled it I clicked on the part that asked if I wanted to be notified when it was needed. I clicked yes. That way it doesn't run all the time. I found I don't really need it 90% of the time on my laptop. Since I did that no more script problems and my computers are a lot faster.
