I will likely be purchasing a CCW in the near future. Right now, I am in research mode and I welcome input on the matter. Reliability, accessibility and concealability are the main criteria for (probably for everyone else as well). I often wear a suit and tie for work and I plan on having the weapon on me as much as possible, but prefer that it not be noticeable (or at least not obvious). Having it not pulling my pants down all the time would be a plus as well.

Thanks in advance.

I carry a Kel Tec P32. It's not the most accurate handgun but it is small and reliable. Very light weight. It fits in my front pants pocket and is not noticeable and also fits nicely in the inside suit jacket pocket.

I'm thinking the same thing for myself. Not that I feel the need to be armed at all times, but there are situations like the one I recently experienced on my way to work in which a deer that had been hit with a car but not killed was laying in the road ditch and raised her head and watched every passing vehicle. I didn't have a means to put her out of her misery. I'm so far out of the loop that I don't even know what's available on the market these days so I'll be watching this thread hoping to gain some helpful info for my future purchase.

I like the Springfield Armory products...caliber will be up to you. At some point you're going to have to go to your local gun store and put one in your hand and see if it fits....think about where you plan on carrying it on your body. I don't think I'd put one in my front pants pocket - I have a hard time getting my phone out quickly let alone something I might need in self-defense - but that is just me. If you have a friend that has something you can shoot, then take that opportunity. Buying a gun is going to be based on many factors - caliber you're comfortable with, how much you want to spend, how it fits, reliability, etc.

XDm Sub-Compact is nice, but a little thick. Carries comfortably inside the waist. The XD single stack though has gotten my attention. Thinner profile.

Springfield XD Single Stack would be my choice if I were buying today.

Regardless of manufacturer, the caliber you want to carry should drive the decision. Ergonomics is one thing but the caliber will drive how those ergonomics react when fired. My normal preference is to open carry .45 but I switch to 9mm when carrying concealed. The .45 kicks a little too much in the smaller pistol and I find I have less control and am less accurate. The 9mm allows for increased round capacity and more control for me.

I definitely recommend going to a range and trying out multiple caliber once you settle on a manufacturer.

I have a Colt Pony Pocket Lite .380 that is pretty much undetectable in my front pants pocket. They have a different model now but the same size. It is a very nice concealed carry choice

I'm a pretty big fan of the Springfield XD models. I had a buddy who just purchased one for CC, although I don't know if it is a single stack or not.

I would bet it's a single stack...I have a full size 45 and there is now way I'm concealing it...I guess I could put it in my front pocket and then it would like I have two schlongs [jumpingsmile]

that's what I carry when I carry open in my drop holster. I wouldn't even want to carry that thing in a shoulder holster. I do love it though. I'm way better with it than I am my Glock .40 for some reason.

I guess I'm a bit of a fan boy. Have 3 of them. XDm 5.25" competition in 9mm, XD 5" Tactical in .40 and a sub-compact in .40.

The 5.25, fully loaded is about the same weight at the sub-compact fully loaded, and it shoots wonderfully.

I've only shot the full-size XDm 9mm. I was impressed.

The only complaint I've got with them is the trigger. The take up and the reset can be slightly distracting, especially in competition. I need to replace the stock triggers on mine, but just haven't gotten around to it.
