Was talking about Springsteen in the other thread and I saw Clarence Clemons on the next to last night of his last tour with the E Street Band before he died. It got me to thinking about other concert events

I ate lunch everyday for about 5 years with a guy that was at The Who concert in Cincinnati where the 11 kids died.

My sister was at the Neil Young concert at Louisville Gardens when there was a riot. He was either sick or drunk and couldn't finish the concert.

For me:
Black Crowes concert at Louisville Gardens where they came out, played one song and walked off stage because their backstage people got into it with the cops. The Jayhawks were great and I got to see them for free so there was that.

I saw the Grateful Dead play Truckin' for the first time since they had quit playing on stage for a real long time.

Grateful Dead at Deer Creek when they had to cancel the Saturday concert because the fans outside got unruly and tore the fence down to get it. The last tour before Jerry died.

I saw the Violent Femmes play Gone Daddy Gone live for the first time ever. It was the first show on a new tour at the Center for the Arts and it was the first time they ever took the xylophone on tour with them.

I saw Iggy Pop play at the old Vouge. Nothing special about that except that Alice in Chains opened for him and it was about a week before Man in the Box came out.

About 50% of the 200 or more widespread panic shows I’ve been to has something “significant” happen especially the shows in Colorado and in la playa.

when I saw Springsteen he played "Streets of Fire" for the first time since the 70s. That was significant I guess

Some chick flashed the crowd on the video board at the Soundgarden/GnR show in Memphis in '92 as we all waited while Axl had his backstage temper tantrum.

You can't leave it at that!!!
That’s about all there is, I was loaded with alcohol and Valium. I managed to order a pizza once back in the room, pure royalty move. There is a lot of detail explaining the amounts of liquor and Valium I took but nobody would believe it so why bother.

Saw White Zombie on their debut tour. They were at Newport Hall Music center in Columbus,Oh. They had balconies. While Zombie was playing. Dude fell over the balcony and landed in the audience. Instead of helping the guy up, the crowd beat the guy senseless. Show stopped for awhile till they dragged that guy out of the show. Then Zombie finished the show.

There was a very unfortunate incident between Shirley Manson's thin white t-shirt and a water bottle when Garbage opened for Smashing Pumpkins. It was sad.

Heard Jake nail Jungleland on the Wrecking Ball tour in 2012 at Wrigley...only the 3rd time it had been played in the US since C died.

I was 15 at an AC/DC concert in the late 80's at Rupp. Saw a guy in the row in front of us OD right there in his seats. The ushers came in with flashlights and shined them on him and he was foaming at the mouth and his eyes were wide open and black as night. I told my parents about it because I wasn't sure what the hell happened, so they told me it was probably a seizure, but looking back and knowing the situation it definitely looked more like he OD'd. Not sure what happened to him, they pulled him out into the hall and we didn't walk out to watch, but it was insane.

Concert random's...

Walked out of TMobile in LV after U2 with Celine Dion behind me. One of those "Oh, hello" moments.

Landed first row for Prince at one of his pop up shows at Louisville Palace couple years back. Pure luck on that draw.

Met Jason Scheff in Nashville a few years back when Chicago played The Ryman. Helluva nice guy and sorry to see him leave the group.

So many memories from the stupid # of shows I have been to.

I was at that Black Crowe’s concert when they walked off stage after one song. Sat through an awful opening act, Jayhawks or something just to see one song. Place was a **** show, puke everywhere walking out, was totally nasty.

Saw the Beastie Boys License to Ill show at the Louisville Gardens. Rumor was they’d been warned to clean up their act or get kicked out. When they played fight for your right a giant dick emerged from the middle of the stage and the beasties were screaming “you gotta fight...for the right...to suck this d%^k. Police stepped in and shut it down but the show was about over then. Some little brother in a wheel chair was beside us that night and he kept trying to get us to sniff off a dirty bottle of rush he had in his pocket. Good times indeed

I saw The Kinks at the old Louisville Gardens in 1984. For some reason, a fan threw a whiskey bottle at Dave Davies and it exploded on his guitar. He screamed into the microphone that they "would never play here again". As far as I know, they kept their word. They did finish the concert though.

When I was a little kid, a couple bailed on going to a concert with my parents so they took my sister and me instead. It was our first concert and it was Elvis Presley. He died a couple months later. I am the original Kingslayer.

Got knocked down five times in a mosh pit at a Five Finger Death Punch concert at Bogart’s in Cincinnati several years ago. The guys picked this old man up each time while laughing their asses off.

I liked the Jayhawks. I still listen to them from time to time. Blue and Take Me With You When You Go are both really good songs.

Kicked out of Rupp in 93 or 94 as Aerosmith was singing their first song. Simple misunderstanding between drunks and police officers. A friggin shame.

Saw Bon Jovi Slippery when Wet in Rupp Arena. I was about 16 at the time and my buddy and I had a room somewhere in Lexington after the show so we didn’t have to drive back home. It was one of those run down inns where the rooms lead directly outside. When we got back to the room we saw a couple of shady guys that looked to be in their mid 20’s or so and asked them to buy us some beer. They came back with a 12 pack and asked us if we got high. I’d smoked weed maybe once or twice but my buddy and I tried to play it off like we were old heads. They came back to our room and started weighing out some of Ky’s finest. They had one of those machines that rolled joints - rolled us up a fat one and I’ve never laughed so hard in my damn life. I don’t think we even opened that beer. To this day I still have no idea how much weed they had in that room but it was several pounds. We talked them into rolling us up a few more of those fancy j’s so we could show our buddies back home. Told them no one would believe us unless we had proof

One of the times I saw David Allen Cole back in the day at Rumrunners, he kept falling off his stool he was so drunk, then started dropping N-bombs over the mic regarding the level of bass coming from the 2 Live Crew concert downstairs at Kamakazie's.

Thought I might get to see a race riot that night.

I was also at that Deer Creek Dead show when the fence came down. Man what a weird scene. The lot was packed and cops everywhere. Some farmer had sent Jerry a death threat because his daughter supposedly had run off to tour with the band. They played "Dire Wolf" in the 1st set with Jerry singing "Dont murder me, please dont murder me." Soon thereafter all hell broke loose when the yahoos started crawling over the fence. The encore was "The Mighty Quinn", "Come all without, come all with in" was a fitting end to a crazy night. I was also at the St. Louis shows when the deck collapsed at the campground killing a bunch of people. Had tix to both Chicago shows but after everything that had happened leading up to them, and Jerry barely hanging on, decided to sell them and call it a tour.

Turns out it was the last tour too. Jerry died just a few months later.

Went to a Poison/David Lee Roth Concert in the late 80's at Rupp. Before the concert me and my buddy were wandering around the Civic Center. We went into this mostly empty room with a few people milling around but a platform with a crap ton of cameras from all the major news outlets were in there. Nobody was manning the cameras, nothing was going on at the time, but something either had just gone on or was preparing to. I was 19 at the time but my friend bought me a beer, so I was carrying that around. We milled around for a few, then went to the show. The next day when I got back home in Oldham County, my friend from up the street goes, "Hey I saw you on CNN holding a beer." Apparently there was some sort of save Eddie Sutton pep rally at the hotel that day.
