Okay but realistically, what do you think “search for work” means. He just has to go through the motions of sending out resumes and looking like he wants to find something.
I’m sure it says he can’t officially retire, but in practice it means nothing.
Page 9 of Pike's contract in the termination without cause section.
"Following such termination, Head Coach shall be required to exert reasonable efforts to secure other employment consistent with Head Coach's background, skills and experience. Upon securing such employment as a head coach or assistant coach in the NBA or Division I college basketball, Rutgers shall immediately be entitled to offset the remaining Post-Termination Pay by the income Head Coach earns in the new employment position."
In contrast, Greg isn't required to look for work if he is fired, but if Greg takes another football coach job, it offsets payments from Rutgers.
I haven’t been following much this season on other teams. The recipe for a possible “surprise upset” would probably be a strong perimeter oriented team that doesn’t rely that much on inside presence (or only has one option in the paint like NW) having an off shooting game. Are there any teams like that - I.e. better statistical shooting versions of NW? That’d be our best chance IMO.
We can complain all we want about being one of the worst 3 point defenses in the country but Pike honestly has no choice but to play that style. I don’t really blame the guards for lazy close outs - it’s not on them ala Jaden Jones. If we don’t overplay interior D it’s basically like lay up lines for our opponents in the paint.
Nebraska maybe? They have Rienk Mast at center but I haven’t watched them this year so don’t know how much their other bigs play. I’m not counting on any real upsets though. I’m hoping for wins over Penn State, MD, and maybe Washington but even that feels like asking for a lot, especially since a mere two weeks ago I didn’t think we’d have any more wins this season!
