I get not liking change, I HATE it. But I don’t understand this at all. Most important to me, you see how all these kids worship Duke. Once they get to the NBA they still rock Duke gear. They still hang with the Duke guys. It really is a Brotherhood. I’ve always been a fan. But it’s awesome saying I’m a fan now. Not only that, but if you stay 3-4 years in college, that means you’re not good. Which means your team isn’t good.

I’d still be engaged and just as big of a Duke fan if we had five guys from the local ymca playing. If it says Duke on that jersey, I’m all in.

I think we do have some YMCA players. Just go read the game threads when we are losing!!
Criticism is one thing, but we’ve seen “this guy sucks and this guy is trash”!! “This guy brings nothing”. Some real losers in those blue jerseys I tell ya!! Well, until one has a big game and had “turned the corner”!!!!

You're so on the money here. I lurk quite a bit and post very little. And honestly the toxicity in the losing game day threads is the biggest reason why. So many great posters are drowned out by the people who only come out in droves when we lose to complain about how, "K doesn't coach anymore" or "insert player name is trash or garbage" or "why isn't insert player name here getting more pt". Look, K is not without reprieve, but the man has earned, or at least should have, the trust of the fans and we should give him and the players the benefit of the doubt. It is unfortunate that we have fans who consistently crap on the guys and K.

I have been a Duke fan since 1964 and will stick with them, no matter what. I do hate the one and done (well, and two and done for that matter). I loved it when we knew guys were going to be here 3-4 years and we could watch them develop and improve. It also gave me a bonding feeling with the team, such as I have with the football team. Luol Deng, Jabari Parker, Kyrie Irving, Austin Rivers et.al., just do not bring the memories and smiles back to me like Bob Verga, Tate Armstrong, Mike Lewis, Shane Battier, Christian Laettner and such. It is like I hardly ever knew them. I do understand the desire to play in the NBA with a chance for the megabucks but then again, I am not crazy about the NBA game today as much as I was when there was no early entry. I hardly ever watch a game except maybe a few minutes here or there when a Duke player is on.

Still, I get excited about every basketball season though and I live and die with the Devils every game. As long as I am breathing that will probably never change.

Excellent post. Drives me crazy. That’s why I stay away from the game threads.

Exactly, I mean, it makes it hard to have a substantive conversation about the game when the idiots are out in mass numbers while we're losing and after we have lost. So, I usually just observe and move on. I hate it. Because I use to enjoy posting on the board more frequently a few years back. Just doesn't seem to be advantageous for us fans who want to have a respectful back and forth. I've read so many posts by certain individuals who say all we do is, "roll out the ball" and it turns me off from commenting in the thread. How can you converse with those who think K doesn't coach anymore but just "rolls out the ball"? For someone who just, "rolls out the ball" he still has us in contention and winning tons of games every single season. I guess coaching has nothing to do with that though.
