Just vote and tell me why you voted for that.

I am in the camp of, "excited for this team but now lost confidence."

To me its all about consistency.

We are loosing the same way we did last year. I don't care if we beat cupcakes. We need to be competitive in these games and we are not.

UofL exposed UK. UofL and Mich State beat us nearly the same way. Terrible.

Concerned but still kinda hopeful. Though admittedly I’m hoping this doesn’t actually turn into another 9-win team like Cal had. Pope better figure out something fast.

We don’t have a very good roster at all. We had to settle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th tier players. Bad recruiting!
Yes but also bad coaching as well. Even if we had star talent, can Pope really coach it? I hate that I am doubting him so early. But the consistency of how we lose is the most concerning and cannot be ignored.

When Pope was hired my immediate reaction was Mitch Barnhardt should be fired. As a day passed I came to realize there was nothing I could do to change the hire so I shifted into full support mode. I am back to Mitch needs to be fired and quite honestly I was there for the contracts he gave Cal and Stoops as well as he hired one of the worst Kentucky basketball coaches of all time. If you remember he didn't even want to hire Cal at the time but was pressured to do so reluctantly. Cal was the right hire at the right time but he should've never received the contract at the end Mitch gave him. Cal was already checked out and taking feelers from other programs. Did Cal hate Mitch which is why he was looking elsewhere and started losing focus?

Some say his whiffs recruiting high school and the portal are just him passing on players to get his guys. Thats more concerning to me! If what we saw tonight was his first choice of players we are in for mediocre to poor basketball.
Yeah and the reasoning for passing on said players is potential issues. Well the guys you choose apparently hate each other so good job!

You’re either seeing coaching issues or roster issues. I see a coach who is in over his head.

I was excited about the team but I have lost confidence .

A team with this many vets shouldn’t start the season out this badly .

Not ready to fire Pope just yet because he actually seemed like he could coach last year when he won all those big games with a roster held together by bubblegum and shoelaces, but I’m very concerned.

If I give him credit for last year, I have to hold this year against him though. Something is very wrong with this team right now. Regardless of whether we whiffed at talent accumulation or not, they aren’t even executing the fundamentals, and he seems at a loss as to how to fix it right now. It’s definitely worrying.

Honestly, I understood and agreed that Cal's shelf life was over here and he had to go, but I never really understood turning away 5,000 at Rupp Arena for Pope's hiring celebration. I thought it was a little over the top. It looks silly right now ...

Here’s exactly my mindset since the coaching search.

Was dead set on Hurley or Oates. Nothing else would have been a home run hire. Wasn’t thrilled with Drew but could have been talked into it. I was furious with Mitch going straight to hiring Pope after whiffing on Hurley and Drew. Guess Mitch and Pope have that in common, can’t land an elite recruit.

The entire fanbase during the first 24-48 hours of the Pope news to UK were mad as hell. Media even initially questioned it before doing a 180 a day later and started praising it. For some reason most of BBN bought into the hype and started to love the hire. I was not part of that group. I still hated it and hated it until the Duke game.

Early last year, despite all the evidence to the contrary, I started to believe Pope might actually be the right hire. By later in the year I had already started to doubt that due to the team doing exactly what his BYU teams did (losing random games they shouldn’t.)

I came into this year actually thinking he would have a top team but I knew for a fact that he was missing an elite scorer/shooter. The Purdue game was fools gold. This year is already shot just a couple weeks in. A team full of injuries, underperforming and evidently bad attitudes.

I’ve seen absolutely zero to make me think next year will be any better. Pope has yet to land an elite high school recruit despite leading for several late in their recruitments.

Bottom line, always trust your gut first reaction. It’s right more often than not in life. He should have never been hired. BBN knew this but let themselves get talked into it by the media and that stupid pep rally at Rupp. He won’t get a second contract or atleast he better damn well not get one. Truthfully he most likely shouldn’t even be given the full 5 years with what he’s shown.
