There is not much bad I could even think to write about - now-former JCA football coach Dan Sharp. Firstly, he was a terrific leader of men. If my 19 moth old was a 19 year old, I would have been very proud to have said Mr. Sharp coached him.

Second, he returned JCA to greatness. Are you kidding me? Six titles and three runners-up. One other coach can say that, and he's been coaching for 20 years.

Third, he took JCA from a place of confusion after its conversion from JC/SFA to JCA. JC had a proud football tradition that was fading...(the tradition aspect). He had the stones to stand up and fight to return that tradition.

Fourth, I'm going to repeat - cause it's worth it - a terrific person and I'm proud he's a part of the State's finest coaching lineage. Honestly, none compare.

Thanks Coach

Welcome Jaws -

Damn, I'm excited about this. Enough said.

Nice article from the Herald. I echo what JChill stated. In the 30+ years I have known Coach Sharp he has been a remarkable coach, teacher and role model for a countless number of young men and women. Dan did things the right way and truly cared about the school, the students and the JCA community.

I am looking forward to the next chapter of JCA football. Jaws will do great things.

What a class act this coach is. Always professional. Some of the MC/JCA back in the late 90's/early 2000's were some of the best games I've ever seen. I love the above article. He knew this was going to be a strong rebuilding year. He could have tipped his hat and walked away and left the new coach with the heavy lifting, but thats not his style.

Cheers to a great one hanging it up.

@JCHILLTOPPERS, tell the crowd more about Jaws, for those of us not in the know. Same O? Will he keep current staff?

Was at the ESCC all conference dinner on Sunday. He gave a VERY nice speech about the two players from JCA that made all conference (one a soph). the speech was 90% about those 2 players and how proud of them he was for working through a difficult season without complaint and being leaders for their teammates. the other 10% of the speech was about difficult season it was from the standpoint of JCA's last 1 win season was 1947. That a series of events all sort of formed to hit a perfect storm, to where it was a challenging season. Not once did he talk about past state championships (as another coach did), excuse in any way or complain in any way about the season. He just acknowledged that it was a challenging season and kept the focus solely on the two players being honored.

At the end he talked about how much he loved football and was looking forward to what the team would do next year. Overall a very, very classy speech.

There was no mention at all about retiring or putting the focus on himself. It was a surprise to see it the next day.

Hugely impressed. Any of those alums that were complaining about his coaching and sniping this year have their heads up their backside. I would have been thrilled to have this guy coaching my son and being a role model for him.

Two big dogs hang it up in the same year! 2016 - what happens next?

Thanks Coach Sharp and Coach A, you've brought a lot of good to a lot of people, a lot of great football to a lot of fans, and a lot of argument fodder to random adults on a message board.

I've known Dan from a different perspective, as I did not have son whom played football. My interactions with him were during my years on the BOD at JXA and in working with Dan on various projects. Class Act? Are you kidding me? None better than Dan Sharp.

Want a role a male role model for you son? Dan Sharp, again.

Want to learn how to win and lose with class? Look nor further than Dan Sharp.

Want respect, want dedication, want great belief in the human spirit? See Dan Sharp!

I had the fortune of having my sons play against JCA and I always admired how Coach Sharp handled himself in both victory and defeat.
I saw a video of him addressing his team after they lost in the quarterfinals last year and he was incredibly sincere and passionate about what it meant to be part of the JCA tradition. Anyone who played for him or had a child play for him was blessed.
I've seen a lot posts about him being a dinosaur....the world needs more dinosaurs like him.
