After hearing so much this year how the East is much better than the West, I hope Iowa was the conference championship game decisively and goes on to glory in the playoffs. I also like the fact that iowa doesn't do much that is flashy; it is just a well-prepared team.

Agreed. They just play good fundamental football. They have been underrated by people all season. Beathard is a lot better than people seem to give him credit for. Plus I think they have the best OL we've played all season by a fairly decent margin, and that includes Michigan Stanford Wisconsin. And a very solid defense and good running game. They may not have the crazy athletes OSU has but they are a much better football team. I laughed when I saw they were only -2.5 against Nebraska. Looking forward to seeing them +7 against whichever East team, and then +11 against Bama or Clemson in the playoff.

And, I agee with you, Ricko. Since I can bet online (or in a shop) in the UK, I think I smell a potentially profitable opportunity with Iowa next week, particularly if they face OSU and a lot of stupid money flows in.

I agree with all of the accolades for Iowa's football team this year. Adding them to the mix gives the Big 10 three of the likely top 6 Ranked teams by the playoff committee. They have a chance to be in the playoffs which is no small accomplishment.

But having said that, I'm going to have to call out some of you. Many of you are proving the point I've made quite often in our discussions. You put Iowa in this status of the little guy who does "good", as opposed to those evil big name programs like OSU which put player graduation and law abiding citizenry as afterthoughts.

You do realize that Iowa has had more arrests the past 5 years than OSU. As a matter of fact they lead the conference and are 12th in the nation with that dubious achievement. They are usually right in line with OSU in graduation rates but with the most recent data are a good 10+ percentage points behind.

This post isn't to villianize the Hawkeyes. Just brining out some points for the haters.

this is a pretty sensitive topic and I don't want to cause a conflagration, but my experience from living in Iowa is that there is very little for a college age kid to do except drink, and that the cops are fascists. Just an observation. Don't get into an uproar about it.

Are we becoming allies? Seriously, thanks for the props, Cat fans! This Hawk team has really kept their noses clean off the field as well....knock on wood.

The West has held their own this year (7-7) which helps sell the league to the networks this off season when the TV deals are struck for the next 5-6 years...hello huge cash from tv,which will keep the Big Ten ahead in facilities. The League is Back!

I would like to add my sentiments to this thread. I have to say that I have mellowed on Iowa over the years. They used to be the Enemy with a capital E, and I felt Iowa fans had little respect for NU. Somehow, a level of mutual respect seems to have evolved, and my own attitude has changed for the better. I like their coach and the stability of their program. I think they earned their trip to Big Ten title game, and I hope they wind up in the CFP.

Arrests for what? Drinking? The difference is that when Iowa players are arrested, there aren't fake suspensions, where players are suspended after the season is over or for meaningless non-conference games against lesser opponent like in Columbus.

And while criminal behavior is not a good thing, one thing Iowa doesn't do is cheat their players through school with academic fraud all over the place, and blacklisting of whistleblowing TAs. No make up oral exams after star running backs flee midterms. No Aids Awareness classes, football majors. You don't see kids who can't make it onto the playing field lose their academic support and then can't transfer 80% of their coursework to other universities. You don't see star WR's playing in bowl games with 0.00 GPAs. You don't see institutional cover up.

Sorry, but the Bucks are the worst. For all your success on the field, you cheat your *** off the field, exploit young men for their football skills and then in return give them nothing in terms of an education. Iowa may have some misdemeanor violations, but they don't cover it up, and they don't cheat for their wins.

And finally, Iowa fans may be hog humpers, but they don't do urine damage to our lawns in Evanston and generally keep their rudeness to violating barnyard animals. Plus, Iowa has a wonderful bike ride across the state each summer where they play gracious hosts. WTH does Ohio have?

There have been Iowa fans who have wanted to give Ferentz the boot several times (which was silly).

One thing tho, Ferentz did adapt and change a few things coming into this season.
