Agree 100%.

That said, CMC and PMac had no business playing D1.
and Fran should have thanked God every day Iowa kept him. No other power 4 conference school would have kept him around 15 years. Iowa owes him nothing, And Caitlyn Clark's silence during Iowa's run in the tourney? Who cares? Hope she enjoys life with the crybaby family.

Good job Beth for hiring an Iowa guy. No more uppity, East Coast snobs needed.

Keep slamming the all time leader in wins in Iowa history.

Keep the insults coming.

Keep coming with what you think are these great, clever, oh my god digs.

Keep forgetting that Fran actually won more games than anyone we had before.

Anything to make yourself feel important.

If you think what you do about Fran...damn what do you think about Iowa?
What do I think about Iowa? I think they kept Fran too long.

Caitlin needs to tell Connor to just move on.

Let some years go by and I GUARANTEE they'll have Fran back in Carver sometime. He'd get a nice ovation.

Two things can be true:

Winningest coach in Iowa history. Had some great moments and good years. Ran a clean/respected program.

It was time to move on.

I mentioned this above; here's some more info.

Ben McCollum had 3 NCAA Tournament wins at IOWA in 7 days (Friday, March 20, 2026 through Thursday, March 26, 2026). This is year 1 for Ben at IOWA, of course.

Fran McCaffery had 4 NCAA Tournament wins at IOWA in 15 years.

Fran's first NCAA Tournament win at Iowa came in his 5th season.

Here's the timeline of Fran's 4 NCAA Tournament wins at Iowa:

2014-2015: 7 seed Iowa beat Davidson in the round of 64; lost to #2 seed Gonzaga in the second round.

2015-2016: 7 seed Iowa beat Temple in the round of 64; lost to #2 seed Villanova in the second round.

2 years without an NCAA appearance.

2018-2019: 10 seed Iowa beat Cincinnati in the round of 64; lost to #2 seed Tennessee in OT in the second round.

2020: canceled due to covid

2020-2021: 2 seed Iowa beat Grand Canyon in the round of 64; lost to #7 seed Oregon in the second round.

2021-2022: After winning the B1G Tournament, 5 seed Iowa LOST to 12 seed Richmond in the round of 64.

2022-2023: 8 seed Iowa LOST to 9 seed Auburn in the round of 64.

Fran’s final 2 years: Iowa did not make the NCAA Tournament.

March 14, 2025: Beth Goetz fired Fran.

Most Fans agree. They liked the trajectory of the program up until the post season failures during the Garza and Murray years. That confirmed for most that we had seen the ceiling. Nothing against the players or Fran. We just reached the max with his style of play at Iowa.

No issues with the 5 years to win the 1st NCAA tournament game. It was a different era with transfer rules and we were in the dumpster when he was hired.

The post season success was too little and too far between. And we were trending down for 3 years

Fran kept doing the same thing over & over (not playing defense). Fans eventually had enough.

Beth did the right thing; luckily she got one of the best coaches out there.

Going by winning percentage, Fran was an average Iowa coach. While he has the most wins, he also has the most losses. His winning percentage to thousandths is the exact same as Alford’s (.589) and only two thousandths ahead of Raveling. It is below Olson, Miller, and Davis (and McCollum) and significantly better than Lickliter. Of course, Todd was the only other one to be fired, although Alford likely was a season away from that fate when he left.

Looking at other peer institutions and winning percentage
Iowa State since 1981—Ahead of Orr, Morgan (just barely), McDermott, and Prohm; behind Floyd, Eustachy, Hoiberg, Otzelberger.
Illinois starting with Henson—Behind everyone (five coaches) but Groce.
Wisconsin— Ahead of the four coaches from 1983-2001, and behind the three since. Had forgotten Bucky had two coaches for one season each, including Stan Van Gundy.

He's also the all time losses leader too - don't forget that.
