I’m always ok when UK loses one early. Puts the fear of god into the team. Lets them know there are better teams at this point in time. Makes them work harder. Pay more attention. Put in extra work.

Pay more attention to scouting reports. Allows the coaches to gather data on weaknesses and make plans to correct them. Allows the team to experience adversity and away from home. Helps bond them together.

This whole new crew was 7-0. Praised and exulted by BBN. Jumped to #4. Got served some humble pie. Won’t hurt will help put that chip back on their shoulders.

When I look back our 96 98 12 title teams all took an early loss. Motivated them. Scared them. Forced them to buckle down.

I wasn’t expecting much of this put together roster but they have showed some grit.

I firmly believe that early loss helps long term. I’m great with the start. Much better than expected.

Most teams are gonna lose a lot of games this season. Parity is going to reign Supreme.

I dont think losing to Clemson benefits UK long term though. You can learn just as much from a close win where you didn't play well as a close loss.

I'm largely of the belief failure teaches more than barely finding a way to success. I know a lot of people think finding a way to narrowly win can teach you just as much. It's certainly a matter of opinion. But a loss hurts more than an almost loss. People tend to analyze and reflect more after failure than "almost failure."

Exactly. Sneaking bye doesn’t carry the same impact.

Clemson played like thugs and roughed us up every way they could get away with. Which was a lot.

If we had to lose, this is the best possible kind of loss we could have taken.

This is the kind of loss that turns you into a gangster.

I can’t say that I am glad we lost one, but we should learn from it. I think the guys might have gotten a little complacent/stale. It happens. Sometimes you need some adversity for a reset.

I wouldn’t say I want an early loss, but I never freak out about a November or December loss unless that loss is to a midmajor

The “expect to win every game” fans don’t live in reality and often find themselves angry because of absurd expectations that haven’t been met at this university in more than 60 years.

Learn from the bad. Use it to improve. If we’re being real, the SEC will be tough and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the league champ finish 12-6 or 11-7. It’s going to be brutal.

Agree, 55 years as a fan. For most of that time, we had good to excellent teams and I never minded a loss every 8-9 games. Believe this will refocus the team and bode well for the rest of the season.

Good things can certainly come from a loss.

But there’s never a good loss.
Only thing losing does is teach you how to lose. Would have rather dropped the first one at Gonzaga. We have to shoot the ball better, no if ands and buts about it. Also, getting 50/50 balls and stop giving up so many offensive boards. Gonzaga will kill on the glass if we do not change. We are going to have to play more physical and not get bullied, warning signs was against WKU, their tallest guy was 6-7, 185 pounds. The 6-4 guard straight took our lunch money. Thedford shoot 10 free throws and took it to the rim time after time. We have to shut down guards driving at will.

I agree. Rebounding has been my only real concern with this team.

I never want a loss. But once you lose then learn something from it.

Nothing wrong with learning while winning either.

Pope has had a few days to come up with a better Gameplan and scouting. If he gonna blame himself, he gonna work harder.

I'm deeply concerned about the direction this message board is going...

I mean, sane posts by HH, civil and pleasant conversations in threads. No board meltdowns after a loss. No bitter infighting between LoD and Superfriends ?

Is that "KUMBAYA" I keep hearing in the background?!?!??

And we have awesome threads about our womens volleyball?

This place rocks!

... But is this still the Rafters ?

😂

Just checking!

Go Big Blue!

0 chance we were ever going to go undefeated. Losses happen. This team, up to Clemson, had massively over achieved when you put even a moderate amount of thought into it. I always assumed we'd lose at least one, if not 2 of the big games between Duke, Clemson, and Gonzaga, so I'll keep it simple...

I'd rather lose to Clemson than to have lost to Duke.

Even if we lost to Gonzaga, which is likely (if we're being honest), beat UL and OSU and head into SEC play at 11-2 and ill be a happy camper. Beat Gonzaga and head onto league play at 12-1 and I'll be on cloud 9.

I’m not sure but didn’t Antione Walker call that players-only meeting right after the early loss to UMass ?

Sure, everybody would love an undefeated season, but one thing a loss will teach you that a win won’t is that you aren’t so gifted or privileged that the breaks will always eventually come your way and you don’t have to give 100% in times of adversity. I still believe Pitino intentionally threw the SEC championship game against Miss St because he was afraid the team might be getting just a bit complacent in exactly the above fashion and wanted them mad and hungry going into the NCAA

ahh, I KNEW I missed something! The one game I miss this year and we lose it. GRRRR... My cable and internet service all went down and I'd been trying to keep up lately. Back up today and this is ironically the first post from the house PC, so all is good again here....

It's almost a shame not to see the haters out in force so often every day around here.

We should spank them all this year, this season has been good so far!

Go Big Blue !
