I have not found out if any of the kids got sick or ended up in the hospital or if they just tested positive for covid. Does anyone know?
Which makes no sense to me if Covid is the reason. Backups not as important as starters?
I haven't figured out how to paste a photo/chart here so look at graph on this page:
their positives have skyrocketed & show omicron, and can see similar searching other campus counties NE qrt of US.
I finally found an article which seemed to state that no one was seriously sick, but the precautions were taken to protect vulnerable people who might get sick, if they caught it. So are we saying this version is not that big of a deal but we want to be sure no-one gets sick, or is this variant supposed to be terrible?
What does that mean - "more contagious"? Seems like a tough thing to put a number on. Sounds like a good scare tactic though.
I will say that we have had way more kids on our team out with covid this year than last year. The only thing in common was that none of them were sick - they just tested positive.
Look at the NY Thompkin County graph, also UK says doubling ever ~1.5 days. Folks who have had both shots can get it and spread it, this makes it much more contagious. Now folks with shots & booster shouldn't get very sick from it but because of spread/contagion unvaccinated & old may be much more likely to get it.
I’ve had Covid, I’m not going to stop living my life because of fear. If you’re old or have a compromised system I get it, but these kids will be fine.
I think when we look at these numbers and they are presented a certain way, it is easy to think it is horrible. We have had way more kids out with the flu in the past few weeks where I coach than ever were out with Covid. So in simply a non analytical way, the flu is way more contagious that the Covid within our school and on our team. Now maybe a lot or most of the kids had Covid - but without symptoms, what does it matter?
The flu will pass in a couple more weeks and I personally think the Covid concerns would too, if we let it runs its course. Since this variant does not seem to be that deadly or strong, (sort of like a common cold) I say let it alone with the kids and let the vulnerable take the precautions. In other words - let the kids wrestle and go to school.
Anyway you look at it this variant of the virus is much more infectious. It certainly is not as deadly as the original strain or the delta variant, but hospitals are full. I am vexed and boosted and will live my life without fear. No need getting the virus if easy simple steps will stop that from happening.
