Could UK land both Gran & Coley?

It seems unlikely at first glance, but I'm starting to wonder if that might not happen. Thoughts?

they both worked together at Fla St., Gran has coached RBs, and WRs, Coley has coached QBs. Coley is not sure of having a job come dec. 27th. A job just coaching QBs is better then having no job.

That's what I was thinking too. Coley might not be able to find another OC job this year & he might have to settle. Kind of like Randy Sanders when UK first hired him.

However, Stoops might have to offer Coley a slightly better title than QB Coach... Maybe passing game coordinator. Or possibly hire Gran as Associate HC/Co-OC & play caller and let Coley have the title of Co-OC/QB Coach. Let both game plan thru the week and on game day, stick one up in the box & the other on the sidelines. Would probably work well since they both have worked together under Jimbo Fisher.

One thing about it, UK would have some very solid recruiting connections to south Florida!

I like that South Florida angle.

I like that South Florida angle.

Me too. Coley & Gran are both very well connected in south Florida. Plus, Stoops, Eloit, Gran & Coley have all coached @ FSU & Miami. And Scott has connections in Tampa. IMHO, the more connected UK is to south Florida the better.

Didn't initially cross my mind, but Gran coached wide receivers and running backs in the past. We're retaining Chad Scott, so we're likely bringing on Gran as an OC/WR coach (which would be fine, considering that we dropped Mainord). That leaves us without a QB coach, and one available spot on the offensive coaching staff. Not the most insane proposition ever. Would I count on it? No, but it would be terrific to see happen.

That could make sense. If Gran comes here, then most likely Tuberville promotes Darin Hinshaw to OC at Cincy. As much as I'd like to see him come along with Gran, that may not be realistic if Tuberville wants to keep him. So we would still need a QB coach.

Maybe Stoops plans to bring in Gran as OC but knows that if he is successful, within a few years he likely gets offered a HC gig and leaves. Maybe he can sell Coley on being the QB coach initially, then move into the OC spot once it is vacated? They are all already familiar with each other and this degree of familiarity could allow for some built in continuity if/when Gran leaves.

Yeah, it makes sense. Now we'll just have to see if all the stars align to make it possible.

Like I said, I like it. The only question I have is UK creative enough to attempt to pull it off?

Richt has offered Coley the title of QB coach and recruiting coordinator. It would be somewhat of a lateral move for him to come here unless it's a co-OC and QB coach with Gran being co-OC and WR coach. I would take Gran over Coley if I had to choose one. If we offered both of them around $650,000-$700,000, I could see it maybe happening.

But I don't think it would ever happen. This would be the type of move that would really get us to the next level, especially offensively and recruiting Florida and Georgia. But I don't see Gran and Coley taking the co-OC roles.

I will be ecstatic when Gran is announced as OC.

If i was Coley it wold be hard to stay on staff going from OC to QB coach and recruiting Co-ordinator.He absoulutely would help in recruiting Fl.

it would be nice, but the choice is going to work with a coach with Stoops pedigree or going to a coach with Richt's.

I just don't think it will happen.

That is what I was thinking too. UK needs to try to make big moves like these and especially with guys who have previously worked together.

Richt has said he wants to get back to coaching QBs, and play calling. Don't see much of a chance to move up with that going on.

Why would Gran agree to a demotion?

I have no idea how much of this is fact or if any of it is, but word on our board is Richt is going to bring at least 2, maybe 3 of UGA's offensive coaches to the U with him, McClendon the WR coach, Brown the RB coach and Lilly the TE coach. He said in his exiting press conference he wanted to get back to more hands on coaching the qbs and playcalling. Don't know how that fits in with what UK wants, or if or part of it is true. But pretty sure McClendon and Lilly are gone somewhere, not by choice, Brown has the chance to stay if he wants.
