@bthaunert The free year isn't just for seniors is it? A freshman this year is a freshman next year if they want. Correct?
Thanks. I was pretty sure because I thought you had explained it before but someone else was sure they were right that it was just the seniors.Yes....but a freshman this year will be a sophomore next year. They will just have the option of adding a 5th year of eligibility after their 4 years are up.
Another nugget. If the player plays their 5th year at their current school, it does not count against the scholarship limit. If a player plays their 5th year of eligibility at a different school, it counts against that school’s scholarship limit.
That is going to wreck havoc on scholarship limits 3 and 4 years down the road.Yes....but a freshman this year will be a sophomore next year. They will just have the option of adding a 5th year of eligibility after their 4 years are up.

Only if those allowed an extra year now count against those limits. Do they? If, yes, kids in HS now get screwed over. That is going to wreck havoc on scholarship limits 3 and 4 years down the road.
I'm not sure they have thought that far ahead.Only if those allowed an extra year now count against those limits. Do they? If, yes, kids in HS now get screwed over.
They do not. Those individuals that stay an extra year, as long as they haven’t transferred into the program after the ruling was made, do not count against scholarship limits.Only if those allowed an extra year now count against those limits. Do they? If, yes, kids in HS now get screwed over.
