Lots of old standbys not in - Harper, Marshall, CVS. And Bogan and Julian dropped. Maybe an Urkel Prep Bowl - Payton v. Ignatius!

How does the CPL playoffs work? If Phillips is to go 3A in IHSA playoffs, do they choose to instead win the CPL playoffs? What round is it that a team must get to in the IHSA playoffs to be removed from the CPL playoffs, and how does that process work?

We care. Some of us are just most familiar with our local teams and conferences. I wish there was more postings from fans of different schools/conference. I don't have time to follow all teams so enjoy the posts about schools I know little about. I think the fans are out there. They post a lot on scoring updates on Friday and Saturday, but don't start many threads.

If you're a CPL team you could fall back into the CPL playoffs if you lose within the first 3 rounds of the state playoffs.

I LOVE the Prep Bowl.My only issue is that they should have it the week after the State Championship and start the CCL and CPS playoffs the first week of the state playoffs.Invite Chicago Conference & Inner City Conference schools.Maybe they will get blown out maybe not.Let them in.CCL.All teams in the Blue who don't get in state get in Prep Bowl. Then 5-4,4-5 and if needed a 3-6 team.IHSA and non participating Prep Bowl playoff school deal with it.You can practice until the last day of the playoffs. If you're in the CCL then you should be able to play in the Prep Bowl playoffs.

I do post about other non private schools such as Reavis and the great year Argo had a few years back as well as the Prep Bowl Playoffs. Most are met with yawns and they couldn't touch Joliet Catholic or Maine South JV or Frosh team so who cares attitude

CPL football should make a bit of a splash in the State Playoffs. There are a handful of teams on the rise and given how they competed against suburban/Catholic school teams this year should be fun to watch.

Will be interesting to see how the week 9 CPL games play out and who falls where when it comes to state playoffs. For instance, if Lane beats Hubbard they make the playoffs as #32 seed and will likely play #1 Loyola, Lane will get clocked for sure. Also, if Joliet West wins this week, they are another 8A team that will be in the state playoff picture. If both Lane and Joliet West win, you should be seeing Simeon in the 7A field as well as Maine South.

Have seen Lane play in person a few times and not impressed. I have not seen Hubbard though so who knows. Hubbard has more athletes and a coaching staff that has been there for 20+ years so Im taking Hubbard

Hubbard is favored to win by 14.
That said Lane is playing their Super Bowl, and has a shot to make the first season by the new coaching staff a positive one. Loyola clocks just about anyone in the first round game by 42. Phillips in 3A could be a direct route to a State Title. 4A makes it a bit tougher, but look for them in the Finals. If Uplift makes the playoffs (doubtful as they have to beat Raby) they could also make a splash in 1A. Raby in 3A looks like they can advance into the 2nd round, Payton could win a game or two in 4A and Young and Simeon could represent in 7A.

Whitney Young likely getting the #1 or #2 seed in 7A. They will get clocked by the #32 or #31 team. Same with Lincoln Park if they get in.

The school that can advance a few rounds in the state playoffs are:

Phillips - semi finals to finals
Simeon - semi finals depending on 7A or 8A placement
Curie - quarter to semi depending on who they draw and which powerhouse comes their way in round 2 or 3 (Loyola or HF)
Morgan Park - could win 1 or 2
King - could win 1 or 2
Payton - maybe, but I don't see it

The issue with any Chicago Conference school is that the quality of the opponents they play are awful. Thats why when Whitney Young is in the Chicago conference they go 9-0, when they come back up into the Illini next year, they will go 1-8. Same thing happened with Taft as they won the Chicago last year and this year will be 1-8 as they played in the Illini. So if any CPL school have a chance to make noise in the state playoffs its typically an Illini team (Phillips, Simeon, Curie, MP, King, etc)

I understand just like to see them get a chance.Lindblom I think is 7-1 and got destroyed by a Illini Conference team I think.Still I say start the Prep Bowl playoffs during week 9 and play the Prep Bowl the week after State.Let all CCL teams have a shot at the Prep Bowl as well as all CPS schools

yes, Curie beat them 60-14 in week 1.

The issue is not only the fact that those schools can't really compete with the Illini teams, there would be way too many games. There are already 16 teams in the CPL playoffs, throwing 16 more in the CC would take too long and then you wouldn't have the teams that get knocked out of state the ability to drop back in. You basically would have to say no CPL league teams are eligible for state, you only compete for the Prep Bowl now.

King- Agree regarding the Illini vs Chicago conference, but Whitney did beat a 6-2 King team 19-6 this year and looks to have some size and athletes, I think it might be a closer game than you think in round 1. Payton might just be the #4 team in CPS behind Phillips, Simeon & Curie, they probably match up better in 5A than 4A.
