Week 11 is here. Not a great opening week of the state playoffs for the CPL. We only have 5 teams left. So let’s get to the analysis.

Orr vs Lena Winslow
Lena Winslow is one of the favorites for 1A but Orr was impressive in their week 10 win against LeRoy. Orr is young and led by their sophomore QB. In the end I fear it may be a year to early for Orr. The one thing I can tell you is the Orrs will be in the water for years to come.
Lena Winslow 31 Orr 21

Urban Prep Bronzeville vs Marengo
UPB had the big win over St Ed’s in the opening round of the playoffs. Do they have some magic left? Marengo is a much stronger test than St Ed’s. I feel the magic
UPB 24 Marengo 21

Brooks vs Sterling
This game is on the blue turf of Brooks. Brooks is led by their elite QB, who led them to victory in the opening round over CPS foe Hyde Park. Brooks will hang tough for awhile but Sterling will ultimately be to much.
Sterling 45 Brooks 22

Phillips vs Prairie Ridge
Defending 5A champ vs 2 time defending 6A champs. This should be a huge matchup and a game to check out. Prairie Ridge doesn’t have Sampson Evans anymore but still is a talented squad. Phillips has multiple Power 5 kids all over their roster. Unless Prairie Ridge has changed since the last 2 years I think their lack of passing game and reliance on the run game plays right into Phillips engage 8 defense. It should be a great one but give me Billingsley.
Phillips 22 Prairie Ridge 21

Simeon vs Lincoln Way West
Another one that should be good. Ultimately though I think Simeon has a little to much firepower with Alante Brown.
Simeon 35 LWW 20

And that’s it for CPL matchups in the state playoffs. Next week I’ll be back with any remaining CPL state matchups and all City Playoff games.

You not going to predict the 3 CPS Prep Bowl Playoff games?

CPS Prep Bowl Playoff.Tonight Thursday Nov 1.Solorio vs Lincoln Park.Have to go with Solorio in this one by 10. 35 to 24. Friday Nov 2.Westinghouse vs Taft.A tossup.Hmmmmm.Taft made the playoffs so I'll take Taft 28 to 21. Someone also said Curie vs Raby but I haven't seen any confirmation of this.If they are playing this week I predict Raby 35 Curie 28.

As we mourn the lack of Fenger, BOTY, Senn, and Little Village in this week's Pick 'em, we still have a job to do. On with the picks!

Orr vs Lena-Winslow. Orr is a classic one syllable CPS name. Lena Winslow is named after a mediocre actress and the family from Family Matters. Normally, a school named after a show with Erkel would get the pick. NOT THIS WEEK! ROW THE BOAT!!! Orr with the upset!

Urban Prep Bronzeville vs Mango - I've heard Mangos are superfoods. I know Urban Prep Bronzeville is walking distance from Ricobene's Breaded Steak Sandwich - voted the best sandwich in America. Mango or Breaded Steak Sandwich? Easy choice for any red blooded American. Pick UP Bronzeville.

Brooks vs. Sterling. Brooks plays on blue turf. Sterling is what my grandma kept in the fancy silverware drawer and never let us use to eat with. Can't eat...can't play football. Pick the smurf turf.

Phillips vs Prairie Ridge. Look, I don't pretend to know anything about PR other than they are defending state champions. What I do know, is that Prairie Ridge would not cut it as a CPS school name. Pick Phillips

Simeon vs Lincoln Way West. A brilliant man told me that LWW is not LWE. I have to agree. Simeon in a blowout.

CPS PLAYOFF PICKS:

Solorio already beat Lincoln Park. I would have picked them to win anyway. Lincoln Park coaches looked like they were hitting the daiquiris early and looking past the team that claims to do more with less. Now that the season is over LP can resume drinking tea with their collective pinkys out.

Raby over Curie - Curie coach only tweets about his lineman academy and what is in store for the off season. Um, aren't you still playing football there guy? Pick Raby.

Taft over Westinghouse. William Howard Taft had a great mustache. George Westinghouse had a great mustache. William Howard Taft was President. George Westinghouse was not. Pick America.

Lean Winslow is going to knock out Orr this week, because when I consider success its all about work ethic, commitment, and eagerness and when you're from Lena that's all you have to hang your hat on, there's pretty much nothing else out there. Go with them out working Orr.

Bronzeville makes me think about bronze statues, when I think about statues I think about my favorite coach of all time, John Wooden, the ultimate winner. So winning is synonymous with UP this week.

While there's no victims in sports, we'll get as close to that line as humanly possible this week as Brooks won't be able to hang with Sterling.

Politics should stay out of schools, and say what you will about the politics of transfers and recruiting, but Phillips is getting it done. No one else mimics that more than a defending state champ, so I'll stick with what I know, city sports. Give me Phillips.

Simeon is not wasteful with their talent, them boys are going to win the title this year, they take it going away.

CPL Playoffs

Solorio spun that ball better last night, they deserved that W.

You might not agree with me and we can debate it all you like, but I think that Curie coach is on to something. He's reworking that roster in to something else. Curie hangs on against a tough Raby team.

Success is a choice and definitely not given to you. If there's any better picture of that than the Taft vs. Westinghouse matchup I don't know where to find it. Taft was a President AND a supreme court justice. Seems like a success to me. Taft wins.
